Roquan Smith will be a tremendous NFL player … and Tremaine Edmunds could be. At last that's the assessment of ESPN analysts Louis Riddick and Greg Cosell when it comes to the prospects viewed as the top two inside linebackers in the NFL draft. As noted here, both Riddick and Cosell went ga-ga over Smith, the Butkus Award winner from Georgia, when asked about their preference. Then, after gushing over Smith, they described Edmunds in more measured terms. The takeaway: He's a freakish athlete who lacks Smith's instincts.

Potential 49ers defensive draft target visiting this week

Last week, it was reported that the San Francisco 49ers planned to host former Kentucky cornerback Andru Phillips on a pre-draft visit. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo confirms that the visit will take place during the upcoming week, which marks the final opportunity for such visits to occur.

With the 2024 NFL Draft less than a week away, ESPN contributors have highlighted some prospects who have seen their draft stock rise throughout the evaluation process. Jordan Reid and Matt Miller pinpointed players who could hear their names called at the end of the first round.

Trent Williams will be 36 at the start of the 2024 NFL season. While retirement isn't on his mind just yet, the San Francisco 49ers must consider a succession plan for left tackle.
NFL Media's Bucky Brooks unveiled his final mock draft, projecting the San Francisco 49ers to select former Arizona offensive tackle Jordan Morgan with the No. 31 overall pick as their eventual replacement for Williams.

When asked about the possibility of wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk not being on the San Francisco 49ers roster on Friday morning, general manager John Lynch responded, "I wouldn't anticipate that."
