Which way will they go? Kiper on 49ers’ first-pick targets

Due to the importance of the position, it's rare for elite pass-rushers to find their way to the free-agent market. And, unfortunately for the pass-rush-needy 49ers, it might be difficult to land a future sack-master with their first pick in the NFL draft. The 49ers, who will pick either No. 9 or No. 10, will surely miss out on Bradley Chubb, the North Carolina State star who is expected to be a top-five selection. So who would be next in line if the 49ers address their pass-rush? I posed that question to ESPN's Mel Kiper on a conference call Wednesday and he mentioned Texas San Antonio's Marcus Davenport, his second-rated pass-rusher.

According to Sports Illustrated contributor Noah Strackbein, who writes for "All Steelers" on the network, there's a level of confidence within the Pittsburgh Steelers organization that they can strike a deal for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk—and at a bargain rate.
"According to a team source, the Steelers and 49ers trade talks are real," Strackbein wrote. "While nothing is imminent, they 'would be surprised if it didn't happen.' But it all comes down to compensation, and Pittsburgh isn't willing to budge much on price."

The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area was the first to report that the 49ers were discussing a potential reunion with Taylor. The receiver was part of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's first draft class in 2017 and spent his first four NFL seasons with the team.

It is less than two weeks away from the 2024 NFL Draft, and the San Francisco 49ers finally have a first-round draft pick, after not having one the last two years. Who will they select? Will it be a defensive player? An offensive player? They could use help on the offensive line and in the secondary and defensive line. And they may also have multiple holes to fill a year from now.
