Who caught the first pass for the 49ers in a Super Bowl? It's a trivia question bound to stump even the most devoted fan because the answer is not Dwight Clark, or Freddie Solomon, or Earl Cooper, or Charle Young, or Bill Ring, or … The correct response: Dwight Hicks. Yes, 36 years ago today, the safety intercepted a pass on the sixth play of a 26-21 win over the Bengals in Super Bowl XVI. It was the first big play of so many the 49ers have had en route to compiling a 5-1 record in the NFL's biggest game. "It was big," Hicks said in a recent phone interview, "because one play can really shape the outcome of a game because of momentum.

49ers assistant coach also suffered torn Achilles during Super Bowl

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw is currently rehabilitating after undergoing surgery for the torn Achilles he sustained last month during Super Bowl 58. He'll have a partner in his recovery, as he wasn't the only member of the team to suffer that specific injury.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to reporters on Tuesday morning at the NFL owners meetings and revealed that defensive backs coach Daniel Bullocks also sustained a torn Achilles during the game.
"[It occurred] about five minutes after Dre's," Shanahan told reporters. "I think it was when [S] Ji'Ayir [Brown] got the interception, he just jumped up and cheered, very similar to Dre's, and his Achilles went too."

Three NFL Media analysts have recently released their mock drafts, projecting the potential moves of each team in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The San Francisco 49ers hold the No. 31 overall pick, marking their first Round 1 selection since 2021.
