Optimistic Joe Staley Eager for 49ers’ Next Season

Jan 10, 2018 at 8:20 AM--

Joe Staley is 33 and just completed his 11th season in the NFL. He's played 158 games and been a rock for the 49ers at left tackle through the good times (under Jim Harbaugh) and bad (almost every other season).Yet as the 49ers look toward 2018, Staley looks like a piece to build around rather than replace. Staley this season was named to Pro Football Focus' All-Pro team (second team), ranking second only to David Bakhtiari of the Green Bay Packers. He also had the third-highest pass-blocking efficiency rating of any offensive tackle, according to PFF.And, Staley is eager and excited about his future with the 49ers.That's great news for a franchise that now believes it's ready to compete in the NFC West in 2018 with a few additions in key spots. With Jimmy Garoppolo now at quarterback and a great young cast starting to set the foundation for the future – including Reuben Foster, DeForest Buckner, Solomon Thomas and George Kittle – Staley is happy to be a part of the franchise re-build.The 49ers started out 0-9 under first-year head coach Kyle Shanahan, but then went a remarkable 5-1 to finish at 6-10."I'm pretty amped up about where we're at and what we're building," he...

Leonard Floyd eager to pair up with Nick Bosa along 49ers D-line

By David Bonilla
Mar 21

Leonard Floyd is eager to begin working with his new San Francisco 49ers coaches and teammates. In free agency, the team signed the former Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams pass rusher to line up opposite star defensive end Nick Bosa, providing a boost to a defensive front that was inconsistent in 2023. Floyd matched his career-high with 10.5 sacks last season with the Bills, a statistic that would have tied with Bosa for the 49ers' team-high in 2023. In a recent interview with team reporter Lindsey Pallares, Floyd was asked how he believes his skillset complements Bosa's. "I believe our skill sets will complement each other well," Floyd responded. "We both been guys who've

What is Brandon Staley's role with the 49ers?

By David Bonilla
Mar 26

Following the dismissal of Steve Wilks, Brandon Staley interviewed for the San Francisco 49ers' vacant defensive coordinator job. Opting to go with internal candidate Nick Sorenson allowed the team to maintain continuity while entrusting the defense to a play-caller very familiar with the scheme the 49ers want to deploy. Sorenson previously worked with former defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans and served as an assistant with the Seattle Seahawks, so that familiarity gave him the edge. Where did that leave Staley? The 49ers hired him, too. However, Staley won't serve as the team's defensive coordinator. Right now, he has the title of assistant head coach. He will be heavily involved in game-day planning. Speaking to reporters at the NFL owners

He addressed multiple topics, from coaching moves, to new rules, to free agency additions and losses. On Monday, GM John Lynch met with the media and answered questions himself. So they have given us some things to discuss during the offseason. We opened the 49ers Webzone Mailbag this week to answer your questions. Some were related to the topics Shanahan and Lynch discussed. Others were not. Let's jump in and see what is on your mind. Do the 49ers add a starting safety? Who would be the best fit, and is Talanoa Hufanga's job safe? - Dave B. It wouldn't surprise me if the 49ers added another safety in free agency. In fact, I'd say it's

Charvarius Ward willing to help 49ers land Tre'Davious White

By David Bonilla
Mar 18

The San Francisco 49ers likely aren't finished fortifying their defense and have reportedly expressed interest in bolstering their defensive backfield. If they require assistance making a significant move, one 49ers player is prepared to lend a helping hand. Last week, the Buffalo Bills released All-Pro cornerback Tre'Davious White, who appears to be an ideal fit for San Francisco's needs opposite Charvarius Ward. Over the weekend, Ward took to social media to reveal that he and White share the same agent and that he is willing to nudge the free-agent defensive back in the right direction. Ward described White as a "hand in glove
