LOS ANGELES — Wide receiver Marquise Goodwin's career-best season ended with a frightening collision Sunday. In the second quarter of the 49ers' 34-13 win over the Rams, Goodwin appeared to be knocked out after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit from safety Blake Countess, who was penalized and later was evaluated for a concussion himself. Goodwin's arms initially splayed after he hit the ground, and left tackle Joe Staley immediately waved to the sideline for medical assistance. "It was scary," Staley said. "I heard the hit initially and I ran over there. I saw his arms kind of seizing up and his eyes were closed.

NFL Media's Adam Rank has thrown his hat into the mock draft ring. However, there's a slight twist. Rather than projecting what NFL teams will do in Round 1, he's sharing what he believes they should do in Round 1. For the San Francisco 49ers at No. 31 overall, Rank suggests general manager John Lynch should focus on upgrading the offensive line. Specifically, he recommends finding a replacement for Colton McKivitz at right tackle.
Rank proposes that the 49ers use their first-round pick on former Oklahoma tackle Tyler Guyton.

NFL Network host Rhett Lewis released his first mock draft of the year on NFL.com. What does he project the San Francisco 49ers doing with the No. 31 overall pick? Lewis has the team acquiring some edge-rushing help, bolstering a group that already includes Nick Bosa and newly signed Leonard Floyd.

Additionally, they acquired defensive tackle Maliek Collins via trade.

The San Francisco 49ers don't always do things like other NFL teams do. But they are consistent, for the most part. Seemingly every offseason, especially in recent years, a star player has wanted a new contract. From TE George Kittle and LB Fred Warner to WR Deebo Samuel and Edge Nick Bosa, the 49ers have given new contracts, but they have waited until late July-early August (and in Bosa's case—September) to do so, much to the chagrin of those players, who wanted their new deal sooner rather than later.
