Niners’ Beathard Will Start, but Garoppolo Appears Ready

Nov 10, 2017 at 9:00 AM--

For now, at least, C.J. Beathard is scheduled to be the 49ers' quarterback Sunday against the New York Giants. But it seems there's a possibility Jimmy Garoppolo could take the field at some point this weekend.Beathard, the rookie from Iowa who has started three straight games for San Francisco, also will start Sunday against the Giants at Levi's Stadium, despite the beating he took last week in a 20-10 loss to Arizona. In that game, Beathard was sacked five times and hit 16 other times while the 49ers were in constant pass mode. Beathard threw 51 times, completing 24 for 294 yards with no touchdowns and an interception. He's 0-3 as a starter – and the 49ers are winless this season – and his numbers aren't good. He's been forced into the lineup because of the ineffectiveness of former starter Brian Hoyer and is playing for an injury-depleted team with a thin level of talent. He's 82-for-161 passing for 941 yards, two TDs and four interceptions with a quarterback rating of 62.7. He's also been sacked 16 times. So, obviously, 49ers fans are eager to see what Garoppolo can do. But head coach Kyle Shanahan has taken a cautious approach with Garoppolo since acquiring him in a...

49ers view Isaac Yiadom as leading candidate to start at CB, says insider

By David Bonilla
Mar 21

The San Francisco 49ers' signing of cornerback Isaac Yiadom to a one-year deal wasn't a headline-grabbing move. It wasn't even the Bay Area team's most significant free-agency move thus far. That would be defensive end Leonard Floyd signing a two-year deal with the 49ers. However, San Francisco hopes Yiadom proves to be one of its more underrated signings. The 28-year-old defensive back is coming off his best NFL season. Yiadom's 81.1 overall grade and 80.4 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus were career highs. Opposing quarterbacks completed 50 percent of their passes (22 of 44) and owned an 84.4 passer rating when targeting the former New Orleans Saints defender in 2023. RELATED:

Mar 20

Jimmy Garoppolo is back in the NFC West after signing a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams. And I know a lot of the coaches here, so a lot of familiarity in that aspect. And then having played against the Rams a lot in my career, I've seen a lot of good things
