Report: 49ers deal for Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo
Oct 30, 2017 at 6:15 PM
• --
The 49ers don't have a win, but they might have their quarterback of the future. In an unexpected move, the 49ers traded one of their two 2018 second-round picks to New England for Jimmy Garoppolo, Tom Brady's backup. Garoppolo, who will turn 26 on Thursday, was a second-round pick in 2014 whom 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan reportedly graded highly when he was the Browns offensive coordinator. Garoppolo has played well in limited action as Tom Brady's backup. He's completed 63 of 94 passes for 690 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions (106.2 passer rating).

The Detroit Lions recently inked their star wideout, Amon-Ra St. Brown, to a lucrative four-year, $120 million contract extension.
