It appears the 49ers have their quarterback of the future.After sitting behind Tom Brady for the last few years, Jimmy Garoppolo has reportedly been traded to the 49ers.San Francisco will send a 2018 second-round pick to the Patriots, according to ESPN.According to NFL Network, the 49ers will be trading their own second-round pick to the Patriots. The 49ers also own the Saints' 2018 second-round pick.In a corresponding move, the 49ers will release Brian Hoyer, according to ESPN. The 32-year-old signed a two-year, $12 million contract with the 49ers this summer.The Patriots drafted Garoppolo out of Eastern Illinois in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Over the last three seasons, the soon-to-be 26-year-old appeared in 17 games for New England. He completed 63 of 94 passes for 690 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions. The San Francisco 49ers first selection in next week's draft comes at No. 31 overall. However, NFL Media analyst Chad Reuter doesn't have the Bay Area team remaining at that spot in the first round. In his seven-round mock draft, he envisions the 49ers striking a deal with the Green Bay Packers to move up six spots to No. 25 overall, where they select former Alabama cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry.
Reuter notes, "Whether it's for a cornerback like McKinstry, an offensive lineman or a receiver, the 49ers could very well give up a mid-round pick to acquire one of the few missing pieces on an otherwise potent roster."
