LISTEN: Final 49ers 7-Round Mock Draft With Steph Sanchez →

49ers’ roster shuffling likely to continue

May 1, 2017 at 6:15 PM--

The NFL draft is over, but the 49ers' offseason renovating continues. On Monday, two days after they made their final pick, the 49ers were closing in on deals with two offensive linemen, a league source said. [...] the 49ers also attended to business with one of their own players by exercising the 2018 fifth-year option on the contract of safety Jimmie Ward, a move general manager John Lynch indicated would occur when he spoke with reporters after the draft. The 49ers, who didn't draft an offensive lineman, are attempting to upgrade their front five with the additions of Fusco and Barnes. First-year defensive coordinator Robert Saleh has moved Ward to the spot, which is among the most vital in his 4-3 defense. Because Ward played corner in his third season in the league, his 2018 contract is worth $8.53 million.
