So what does John Lynch do for an encore?In Round 1 of the NFL draft Thursday night, the 49ers' rookie general manager was aggressive, going after two players he believed were among the top three in the draft. Lynch said Stanford defensive end Solomon Thomas and Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster were two of the three top-rated players on the team's entire draft board, along with the draft's No. 1 overall selection, Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett (taken by the Browns).The fact the 49ers wound up with Foster was part luck and part action on the part of Lynch and his staff.First, Foster had to fall all the way to the bottom of the first round. And, thanks to a shoulder injury and two other factors – he was sent home from the NFL combine after getting into an argument with a hospital worker during his medical testing and then had an abnormality in his urine test for drugs (diluted because of too much water) – the former Alabama star was available with the 31st pick in Thursday's Round 1.According to an account by Josh Katzenstein of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the Saints were all set to select Foster with the 32nd pick, when the 49ers traded up with Seattle....

According to Sports Illustrated contributor Noah Strackbein, who writes for "All Steelers" on the network, there's a level of confidence within the Pittsburgh Steelers organization that they can strike a deal for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk—and at a bargain rate.
"According to a team source, the Steelers and 49ers trade talks are real," Strackbein wrote. "While nothing is imminent, they 'would be surprised if it didn't happen.' But it all comes down to compensation, and Pittsburgh isn't willing to budge much on price."
While it seems unlikely that the 49ers would part ways with Aiyuk for anything less than a first-round draft

The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area was the first to report that the 49ers were discussing a potential reunion with Taylor. The receiver was part of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's first draft class in 2017 and spent his first four NFL seasons with the team.

The San Francisco 49ers are hosting several draft prospects this week as the deadline for pre-draft visits draws near. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, the team will host former Western Kentucky wide receiver Malachi Corley on Wednesday.
Corley is expected to be a Day 2 pick. San Francisco owns two selections on Day 2—the No. 63 overall pick in the second round and the No. 94 overall pick in the third round. Currently, the receiver is visiting with the Seattle Seahawks.

7-round mock draft from The Athletic sees 49ers fortifying defense early

Analyst Dane Brugler recently revealed his seven-round mock draft for The Athletic, forecasting all 257 selections in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, set to kick off next week.
"Piecing together a mock like this is time consuming, but I enjoy the exercise, because it allows me to focus on each team's needs, organizational trends and prospect-team pairings that make sense based on '30' visits, league buzz and overall interest," Brugler wrote.
Most expect the 49ers to address the trenches early in the draft, and Brugler has the team doing that. It's just not on the offensive side of the football. In fact, Brugler doesn't have San Francisco
