Just 386 days after they had an introductory news conference for Chip Kelly, and 756 days after they ushered in the Jim Tomsula era, the 49ers rolled out the red carpet Thursday for their Next New Guy, Kyle Shanahan. The 49ers gave joined-at-the-hip, six-year contracts to Shanahan and Lynch and it appears clear the commitment came with this commitment from CEO Jed York: Shanahan, 37, and Lynch, 45, both rookies in their respective roles, have inherited a 2-14 team that hasn't beaten a team other than the lowly Rams since December 2015. On Thursday, a day after Shanahan asked fans to "be patient with us" in a team-produced video, he continued to say he and Lynch planned to "do it the right way." [...] he spelled out what he meant: Unlike past news conferences in the auditorium at Levi's Stadium, where phrases such as "We raise Super Bowl banners" and "This is not a rebuild situation; this is a reload situation" have been uttered, there were no bold proclamations Thursday. For starters, Shanahan will have control of the 53-man roster, and Lynch will have final say on free agency, the draft and the 90-man roster. What's important to you? We are less than one week away from the NFL Draft, and the San Francisco 49ers have their first day-one draft pick since 2021. That was the year they selected QB Trey Lance number three overall. The trade-up to get Lance cost the 49ers their first-round picks in 2022 and 2023. And now that they are back in the first round, at pick 31, fans are anxious to see what the team does with the pick. And with former assistant GM, Adam Peters, now in Washington, it will be interesting to see how well the 49ers draft without Peters in the room.
