Matt Millen on 49ers GM John Lynch: 'It's a steep curve' Like the 49ers' just-hired general manager John Lynch, Matt Millen was a star defensive player who transitioned to television analyst before he entered an NFL front office with no previous personnel experience. Since the 49ers hired Lynch on Sunday night, many have pointed to Millen's tenure as the Lions president and general manager as evidence the inexperienced Lynch is doomed to fail. Millen, who joined the Lions in 2001, was fired three games into Detroit's 0-16 season in 2008. The Lions went an NFL-worst 31-84 during his tenure, during which Millen drafted top-10 flameouts such as quarterback Joey Harrington and wide receivers Charles Rogers and Mike Williams. Looking back, Millen, 58, acknowledges his 12-year career as a linebacker with the Raiders, 49ers and Washington didn't adequately prepare him for the job. "It's a steep curve for (Lynch)," Millen said in a phone interview with The Chronicle. Lynch, notably, could have a stronger support system than Millen, who had wide-ranging control for most of his tenure. The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech. Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area was the first to report that the 49ers were discussing a potential reunion with Taylor. Draft Watch: Western Kentucky WR Malachi Corley visiting 49ers on Wednesday

The San Francisco 49ers are hosting several draft prospects this week as the deadline for pre-draft visits draws near. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, the team will host former Western Kentucky wide receiver Malachi Corley on Wednesday. Corley is expected to be a Day 2 pick. San Francisco owns two selections on Day 2—the No. 63 overall pick in the second round and the No. 94 overall pick in the third round. Currently, the receiver is visiting with the Seattle Seahawks.
