49ers: ESPN’s Louis Riddick to get interview for GM job

Jan 3, 2017 at 5:15 PM--

Riddick, 47, a former NFL defensive back who has been a scout and personnel executive with Washington and Philadelphia, said Monday on ESPN that the 49ers' GM opening is very appealing. Riddick began his six-year career as a ninth-round pick of the 49ers in 1991, but didn't play in a regular-season game for them. "I know there are plenty of people, there are plenty of teams, that wouldn't hire me based on some of the things that I've said, or how strong my personality is," Riddick said on the Sports Illustrated Media podcast. Because I have a strong personality. Washington offensive coordinator Sean McVay and Dolphins defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. McVay, 30, is the NFL's youngest coordinator, eight months younger than 49ers special teams coach Derius Swinton. Quarterback Kirk Cousins ranked third in the NFL in passing yards (4,917) and seventh in passer rating (97.2). Cousins, a 2012 fourth-round pick, has thrown for 9,083 yards with 54 touchdowns and 23 interceptions since 2015. In 2015, the 49ers reportedly wanted to make Joseph, 44, then with the Bengals, their defensive coordinator and assistant head coach, but were blocked from speaking with him by Cincinnati.
