Salute to Colin Kaepernick, a stand-up kneel-down guy

Considering the courage it must have taken to send paychecks out to so many people who were not earning them, from Jed York to Jim Tomsula, I thought the award should have gone to Joan in Payroll. By kneeling during the national anthem, Kaepernick risked more than anyone else in sports in 2016. President Obama gave his support, while Donald Trump voiced his disdain, challenging Kaepernick to find himself another country to kneel in. [...] with his protest, his well-spoken explanations of it, and his million-dollar donation to causes, he proved himself a stand-up kneel-down guy. Credit to 49ers' CEO York and coach Chip Kelly for standing by their kneeling man. Not all the 49ers' players agreed with Kaepernick's protest, but most of them appreciated the team discussion he sparked and led, and also the new football-team leadership role he took on. If the Raiders' Red Rifle has a good game Sunday and performs well in the playoffs, he'll attract interest from teams seeking a solid backup, or maybe a starter. New Year's resolution: I will get language tapes and study them during commercial breaks of NFL games, and during video-replay reviews in all sports. If Jed York plans to keep...

If the 49ers draft a wide receiver, don't expect it to be a smaller guy
By Marc Adams
Apr 13
The San Francisco 49ers are in good shape for 2024 when it comes to the wide receiver position. What that room looks like after this coming season remains to be seen. Most believe the 49ers will give Brandon Aiyuk a new contract around the start of training camp. But there are no guarantees. As it was reported on Friday, Aiyuk unfollowed the 49ers on Instagram, much like Deebo Samuel did two years ago.
It seems to be how modern-day players negotiate. It's not necessarily anything to be concerned about, but you never truly know how these things will end. There is still potential that the 49ers could trade the star receiver in the next couple of weeks.
If Aiyuk is extended, it

The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area was the first to report that the 49ers were discussing a potential reunion with Taylor. The receiver was part of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's first draft class in 2017 and spent his first four NFL seasons with the team.

Rapoport: 49ers send clear message to teams inquiring about Brandon Aiyuk
By David Bonilla
Apr 16
Ian Rapoport didn't offer much of an update on the ongoing contract negotiations between the San Francisco 49ers and their standout wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk. However, the NFL insider emphasized one thing: The team is not entertaining trade discussions at this juncture.
Reacting to Aiyuk's decision to unfollow the 49ers on Instagram, Rapoport couldn't help but chuckle at the latest development. This practice has become commonplace among players who are unhappy with their contract situations. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel similarly took this action in 2022 before requesting to be traded just before the draft.
Things have yet to escalate that far with Aiyuk, but Rapoport sees his
