49ers’ Carlos Hyde won’t lack for offseason fuel

Dec 29, 2016 at 6:00 PM--

Running back Carlos Hyde found a silver lining to ending the season with a knee injury and 988 rushing yards: Hyde and cornerback Jimmie Ward, the 49ers' first two draft picks in 2014, are the most logical candidates for extensions. Hyde has missed 14 of 64 games in his career because of sprained ankle, broken foot, sprained AC joint (shoulder) and sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee. If both players are sidelined for Sunday's game against Seattle, left guard Zane Beadles probably will make his second straight start at center and either undrafted rookie Alex Balducci or Andrew Gardner would start at left guard. Balducci was a defensive lineman at Oregon. Gardner, 30, who has 11 career starts, was signed Dec. 21 after he'd been out of the NFL since the Eagles released him in August. [...] head coach Chip Kelly said left tackle Joe Staley (hamstring), who has missed the past three games, faced an important practice Thursday. Jed York had an impromptu and informal chat with reporters outside the locker room Thursday afternoon and indicated he would address the media next week.

Four reasons why the 49ers won't trade Brandon Aiyuk

By Marc Adams
Mar 24

While rumors have continued to swirl about the possibility of the San Francisco 49ers trading star wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk, some have held fast to the belief that the 49ers will not trade the player. Teams are calling about Aiyuk. Reportedly, the Jacksonville Jaguars were interested but felt the 49ers asking price was too high. And who could forget the talk of Aiyuk going to Pittsburgh when he fanned the trade rumor flames with a social media post about how he and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin look alike? (Now that he mentions it, they do kind of look alike.) But when push comes to shove, will the 49ers really consider trading Aiyuk? I suppose if the price is right, they will. But they've invested so much in him, from taking him 25th overall in the 2020 NFL draft to

49ers Notebook: Crucial offseason for Purdy; O-line confidence; Shanahan on new kickoff rule, Dobbs signing; Hufanga eyes training camp return

By David Bonilla
Mar 26

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan doesn't have to field as many quarterback questions as he did a year ago after Brock Purdy underwent surgery, the arrival of Sam Darnold, and the uncertainty surrounding the future of Trey Lance. The quarterback situation is clearer now than it has been in recent years. For Purdy, this offseason holds significant importance. It marks the first time he can focus on on-field improvement during minicamps, OTAs, and training camp. While he had this opportunity as a rookie in 2022, he was buried on the depth chart, limiting his practice reps. Last year, Purdy was still recovering from surgery to repair the torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow. He didn't get to throw to his teammates until training camp in

Steelers reportedly interested in trading for 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk

By David Bonilla
Mar 19

The Jacksonville Jaguars were reportedly interested in trading for star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. However, the San Francisco 49ers' asking price of the No. 17 overall pick plus a player was seemingly too high for the team. Now, it appears another AFC team might be trying to pry Aiyuk away from the West Coast. Andrew Fillipponi of Pittsburgh-area radio station 93.7 The Fan reports that the Steelers are looking to work out a deal with the 49ers for the receiver. "Sources: The Steelers have looked into 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk," Fillipponi wrote on social media. "He's entering the last year of his contract. Steelers would have to execute a sign and trade. But they've shown
