Next step for 49ers’ Trent Brown: Go from good to great

In the 49ers' recent loss in Atlanta, right tackle Trent Brown went head-to-head with a prominent speed-rusher in Falcons outside linebacker Vic Beasley. Beasley is a 246-pound flash who leads the NFL with 14.5 sacks. Brown is a 355-pound behemoth who told himself - in colorful language -- no one expected him to keep pace with the No. 8 pick in the 2015 draft. [...] Brown didn't allow a sack to Beasley, who was eventually switched to the right side to face left tackle Zane Beadles, a tacit acknowledgement Brown won their matchup. Brown, after all, was a seventh-round pick in 2015 - he was selected 236 picks after Beasley - who has been one of the few bright spots in a 2-13 season. Brown and Beadles are the only offensive players to start all 15 games, and his performance this season recently drew unprompted praise from his mentor, Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Staley, 32. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, whose team will visit Levi's Stadium on Sunday, joked he was disappointed Brown ended up in the NFC West. The San Francisco 49ers likely aren't finished fortifying their defense and have reportedly expressed interest in bolstering their defensive backfield. If they require assistance making a significant move, one 49ers player is prepared to lend a helping hand.
