Niners’ Hyde Showing He Can Be Part of Long-Term Plan

There are few positives the 49ers can take out of this horrible season, but running back Carlos Hyde is one.In his third season with the 49ers, the former Ohio State standout is having his best year by far. With two games to go, Hyde is just 50 yards from his first 1,000-yard rushing season. He's set career highs for yards rushing (950), carries (204), yards per carry (4.7) and rushing touchdowns (6). He also has career highs in catches (24), yards receiving (139) and TD catches (2).As the 49ers prepare to enter what should be a busy offseason of change, Hyde is one of the few players on the roster who can be counted on as a long-term building block.Head coach Chip Kelly says Hyde has been a terrific, all-around player who now is comfortable in Kelly's spread offense."I just think he's gotten better over time," Kelly told reporters this week. "(He's) a very talented player. The more reps he gets at it, the more he sees it, the more comfortable he feels with it."While no 49ers were selected for the Pro Bowl, Hyde was one of two players (tackle Joe Staley being the other) selected as a second alternate. Rumor: Steelers believe they can acquire 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk at a bargain

According to Sports Illustrated contributor Noah Strackbein, who writes for "All Steelers" on the network, there's a level of confidence within the Pittsburgh Steelers organization that they can strike a deal for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk—and at a bargain rate. "According to a team source, the Steelers and 49ers trade talks are real," Strackbein wrote. "While nothing is imminent, they 'would be surprised if it didn't happen.' But it all comes down to compensation, and Pittsburgh isn't willing to budge much on price." 49ers sign WR Trent Taylor, reuniting with former draft pick

The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech. Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area was the first to report that the 49ers were discussing a potential reunion with Taylor. The receiver was part of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's first draft class in 2017 and spent his first four NFL seasons with the team. Draft Watch: Western Kentucky WR Malachi Corley visiting 49ers on Wednesday

The San Francisco 49ers are hosting several draft prospects this week as the deadline for pre-draft visits draws near. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, the team will host former Western Kentucky wide receiver Malachi Corley on Wednesday. Corley is expected to be a Day 2 pick. San Francisco owns two selections on Day 2—the No. 63 overall pick in the second round and the No. 94 overall pick in the third round. Currently, the receiver is visiting with the Seattle Seahawks.
