San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke released the following statement on Sunday regarding head coach Chip Kelly, whose father, Paul Kelly, passed away on Friday night.

"The thoughts and prayers of the entire San Francisco 49ers organization are with Chip and his family as they face the difficult process of grieving the loss of a loved one. Understandably, coach will take some time to be with his family before returning to the team this week. Chip has our continued support as he mourns the passing of his father."

Kelly will not be made available for his normally scheduled Monday press conference. Team coordinators will be available on Tuesday as they typically are.

Kelly told CSN Bay Area that the team had made arrangements for him to travel to back to New Hampshire after the game. He had flown from Chicago to New Hampshire late Friday after learning of his father's death and returned for Sunday's game. The team was notified of the situation by Baalke during a Saturday morning meeting.

This morning, it was reported by Jay Glazer on FOX NFL Sunday that Chip Kelly's job was safe and that he would return to the 49ers in 2017 no matter what transpired during the rest of the season.

On Sunday, Kelly coached the 49ers to their 11th-straight loss, this time a 26-6 defeat in a Chicago snowstorm. He has won just one game since taking over as head coach for the 49ers and just seven in his last two NFL seasons.
