If we draft Derwin James and we now signed Richard Sherman are we the new Legion of Boom? You can win the Super Bowl with a Legion of Boom secondary. If the top pass rushers are off the board it's not a terrible way to go. James can be in our area but he may go before us. But if the top pass rushers were gone and James is there do you like the move? It's one possible route given that we already added Richard Sherman in the off season. It's one possible way to build. Building out the secondary to be very tall, strong, powerful and hard hitting is one way to a winning formula. We have seen it work for Seattle in the recent past.
What do you think of the possibility of building that way? How much do you think it could potentially help us if we did?
****
OK the nickname does not matter. It can be a different one if you hate Seattle. LOL. Too many posters are caught up in that. The point was can we have an elite secondary?

nah. The legion of boom was a historically great defense. They don't have the corners, the safeties, the linebackers, the pass rush, nor the coaches to become that good. The best you can hope for is a top-10 defense with an explosive offense. That's the winning formula in today's nfl.

While it is true that we don't have the defense anywhere near as good at least for 2018 it would dramatically improve our team. I mean adding Richard Sherman and Derwin James in one off season to the secondary would do wonders for this team in the secondary. We are more years away and more draft picks away from being potentially that great. Maybe we never would be. But we would be so much better in the secondary at least. That's a great start for 2018 at least. Where we are in 2019 or 2020 who knows? But you have to start building somewhere and the great pass rushers may be off the board.

Sherman, James, Foster, Armstead, Ward.
The only legion we might need is a legion of medical staff.

The closest legion the 49ers have is the "Legion of who?"

I love Derwin James, absolutely love him! He reminds me of Sean Taylor and as a Die Hard Canes fan, Sean Taylor is one of my all-time favorite players. I would have no problem with us taking James at #9 if he is available but I just really like Tartt and Colbert as well and I think we obviously have bigger, pressing needs than adding another safety. I would not complain if we took James but again I think we have some bigger holes we need to fill right now.

No and safety is the last position I would draft at 9.

I'm good with our safeties right now. Colbert can step in if Ward goes down. I even like our fourth safety Dexter McCoil who we grabbed off waivers from San Diego. Who has size and ability to be a box SS.

You'd know who they were if you weren't a Steelers fan.

No, and that name is lame anyways. We'll build our top 5 defense sooner or later...still dealing with Trent Baalkaca's mess

I say if we drafted a Leo who works out and Thomas takes a step forward we could have a serious Line. Could you imagine if Armstead did too. Our secondary could end up looking even better than with James.
