MadDog49er Big 150 Board

The combine has come and gone, and now we are in full swing with campus Pro Day workouts. It is an exciting time for young men as they try to impress scouts, coaches and GMs.

This is my first installment of my projected draft board. It will increase to 256 by the end of this month when I drop a full draft. This board is NOT a mock draft since there will be a million trades that change teams draft positioning and player needs. It is a projection of where I think the player will be drafted, a ballpark estimate. Ex: I have Josh Allen going at #1 and Sam Darnold going at #4. I project a trade up by some team to pick Darnold. Of course, the closer to the number one pick, the more it looks like a mock draft. Will Roquan Smith go to the Niners at 9? I am not sure, but I think he is going somewhere in that area.

This is also NOT a best player board. I will post my best board in the next few weeks.

As always, I will do some magic tricks with my Excel spreadsheets numbers, players at the wrong school, positional errors, and spelling errors. If you see Jash Rosens, LB from Arkansas, I have had worse moments. Let me know where I goofed.

As always, I will provide a rationale of why I have some player projected way earlier than expected and why some seem way lower than expected. I am sure Kolton Miller and Shaq Griffin will raise eyebrows. Would love to hear your thoughts as well- MD

Cool if we can take Landry and add more draft picks by trading down.
Cheers MD
I've seen a big difference of opinion in: 27 Lorenzo Carter Georgia LB. I see him as a good fit, and it appears you do as well.
Good Job MadDog! This is my feeling as well with the 4 Qb's. I don't know what order they will go in but there will be trades all over before we pick at 9. If the 4 QB's get picked before 9 that automatically drops a top 5 talent to us at 9.

Very interested to see your big board!

Barkley and Chubb should be gone by our pick so that's 6 players off the board. So how high our the Niners on Nelson, Minkah, James, Smith, Edmunds, Sutton, Ridley, Davenport or Ward...

IDK if we will be able to trade back like everyone wants to do because I think there needs to be a QB still left at 9 or a huge impact player.
Great list as usual... I think Edge Rushers are becoming like QBs now in that teams will reach to get them, thus I see Landry in top 12 and Sweat to go in the 1st IMO

edit: forgot to add that I think Rosen slides in the 10 to 15 range

Based on your previous posts it seems like your pretty positive on Davenport's potential.

Per your projection, the Niners could potentially do 2 trade downs and still get Landry, or conservatively trade down once into the high teens.

Between the two, who's the best fit for Salah's scheme?

Good stuff MD.
Looking at the 60-80 range where the 49ers have three picks to use, I see a couple OT prospects (O'Niell, Okorafor). Are those two guys truly worthy of their late 2nd/3rd round grade or is it a poor OT class in the mid rounds?

Griffin would be a nice get with one our two 3rds. Badly need a playmaker in the LB corps with Foster's future so uncertain.

He's pretty good. Hyper athletic and makes big plays. Getting better each day

It is a poor OT draft period. I don't have one guy projected to go in the first round if you classify Williams as a guard, which I do.

O'Neill is still learning how to play OT, and needs a ton of work. He was really bad at times during Senior Bowl practice and in the game. Okorafor is strictly a RT prospect in my eyes. Flashes some really good play at times, and then struggles. Inconsistency is a big problem.

Because it is such a terrible class, it gives guys like Kolton Miller the chance to be drafted way earlier than in a normal year. The interior linemen are great this year...the guys outside are pretty messy.
Thanks for putting this out. I'll take a closer look this evening.

Quick thought: Way earlier than I expected to see Hand. He'll continue to disappoint if he goes that early.

Even more so, the team desperately needs a team leader, a captain of the defense. To me, it makes a ton of sense to draft either Roquan Smith or Leighton Vander Esch (I am warming up to him with our pick) at 9. Both are great 3-down athletes who will never come off the field, and were team captains (Smith 3 -time and Vander Esch once). Neither Edmunds, not Landry, nor Jefferson were team captains at their school, which is very interesting to me. Other team captains to consider running the defense in this draft: Josey Jewell (3 times), Micah Kiser (2 times), Jack Cichy (3 times)

The identity of this defense is largely going to rest on who is captaining the ship, so if the team is not going MLB in the first, they have to get a MLB in the second or third. Jewell and Kiser would bring an automatic identity to the team, especially Jewell. Guys will go to war with these leaders.

Yeah I've read from yourself and others that the interior OL class is good. Was hoping to draft Staley's understudy this year. Maybe not.
