MadDog49er Seven Round Projection April 24 2015 and Notes

Less than a week away. Let the party begin. Here is my latest, and second to last, big board, projecting where I believe players will be selected. This is not a best player board, nor a mock draft (too many trades). Just a ballpark projection of where I see players selected.

It appears some of the hot names out there are:
1. Mariota, who surely will be drafted number two by some team if Winston goes first. Seems the Browns, Chargers, Eagles and others are ready to make a major move up the board.
2. Eric Rowe- Long corners/safeties are the rage. Primed for the first round. Maybe as high as 20th overall.
3. Andrus Peat- probably going in that top 15 group, maybe earlier to a team looking for an anchor tackle.
4. Vic Beasley- I think he is in play at number three, but believe will be selected between 5-10. Just too fast and productive.
5. Amari Cooper- rumor the 49ers might make a move up the board, but they better do it early. The Raiders are going to end up with Cooper or :L. Williams. They are drafting picks with lower floors/low bust potential.
6. Arik Armstead- I would lay heavy money this is the player the team will select if he is on the clock at 15. Just a really strong hunch. Not my pick, but a big guy with upside.
7. Gurley- I have him going 10th overall to the Rams, but he could go higher. I have him as my 4th best player in the draft. Seems like he is going to be ready for the season (no PUP).
8. Bud Dupree- I am personally not a big fan, but this is a great athlete, and a terrific guy. Wants to learn, eager to impress, going top 16.
9. Sean Mannion- appears to be a top 5 guy on many GMs boards. I don't get it, but I don't have to. Slotting him as an early 4th rounder. Fools gold.

Players crashing and burning
1. Shane Ray- I have him falling to the bottom 15 picks in the first round. Concern over ankle, length, cone times I believe drive him down
2. Randy Gregory- smoking pot before the combine, thin build and lack of solid character (compared with Bud Dupree). He simply gets leapfrogged.
3. Ekpre-Olomu- seems his injury is more severe than expected. I have him falling down to the late third/early fourth.

I don't agree with you on Arik being our pick. It makes almost no sense at all. I also disagree with your thoughts on Shane Ray falling so far. I think he still goes in the top 15 picks, regardless of injury.
Is the Ray drop mainly due to the injury? i wasn't aware of a poor cone time issue or length issues. Couldn't the poor cone time be attributed to his injury? Wasn't he one of your favorites? Depending on the severity of his injury, i think he would be hard to pass up at #15.

I love Ray, but there are questions over the health of his foot, and with some of the struggles in change of direction he showed at his Pro Day, it is going to cost him a half round in my opinion.

Losing two starting 34 DEs is a bitter pill to swallow for the team (even if Smith does return, it is for one year). If the team is sold on Dial and Carradine, then maybe it is a higher priority.

Trust me when I saw that AA is not the best player on the board, if he is there at 15. I just think the team will bite.
wow, paul dawson has really dropped on your list.

This is his projection for what the draft will look like, not his big board. MadDog has been projecting Dawson as a 2nd round pick for a while while ranking him in his top 30.

I hope not. AA has the biggest bust potential in the entire draft IMO. Gregory, DGB, Peters are problematic but still better picks at 15.

Thanks. I grade Dawson out much higher than I believe he will be selected. I have him as a top 25 value pick.

Of this group, I'd pick Peters, as long as it is for a press corner team.
Mad Dog, if the Niners dont draft a CB in round one, but target a CB in round two, who do you like?

According to your board both Darby and PJ Williams look to be available, but both have significant character flags.
Ray at #15 would be nice to prepare for losing Brooks and possibly Aldon next year.

Do you think he can pack on weight and convert to a 3-4 DE?
