i know that everyone says niners need to draft olineman

amd rightfully so, but if there is a better player at another position the niners should consider that player...what i am specifically thinking about is a guy like dez bryant falling to their 1st rd pick..he would be too good to bypass, especially if the available olineman are not as highly rated

bryant, crabtree and davis would put pressure on the defense ala the cardinals...if the niners can give the qb enough time to throw

If Dez Bryant were to be available at where we're picking...I would more than love to have him paired up with Crabtree on the outside. Couple that with the fact that we have another first rounder that might be around the same as our pick seeing as how Carolina has the same record as us at this point. With that second pick that might be ahead of or shortly after the Dez Bryant pick, we could use it on the best OL available. It would probably be the best scenario for an offensive draft for us.

I think we will pursue some veteran OL in FA this year though. If we don't it's a fail. But yeah, I agree with what you're saying only if we commit that next pick to OL, cause we really need some help there.
Right now the majority of people will tell you no. But free agency will be very important for us to improve the offensive line and other positions. I have to see what we do there first before I jump on his bandwagon.
i wouldnt tell you that, and everytime i bring it up someone is trying to jump down my throat with brash reasoning..

there are only a couple elite offensive linemen this year, while the rest of the draft is being overloaded in the top 2 rounds with elite skill position guys...guys that are normally much harder to find in your average draft...yet, many think its wise to use our 2 likely high 1st round picks to skip that opportunity..

Just a gut feeling, but this kid has holdout written all over him.

co-signed. It depends. If we fix the OL in FA, or there are more than one OL on the board when it's our first pick and Dez is on the board, go ahead lets get him. He could be another good weapon for the QB, and could make an average QB really good if we get the time to throw. At the same time though, we need a pass rusher. But if we get one in FA, than sure lets take Dez. There's a few players I wouldn't mind us getting if we can afford it. Dez Bryant, Jahvid Best/CJ Spiller, etc. We definitely need an OL with one of those picks though.
i've always hated the boring picks such as kentwan balmer and chilo rachal (linemen) and rightfully so. this will probably be the only year where i wouldn't mind to see the 9ers draft 2 OL in any of their first 3 picks. we must pick eric berry

At the rate we're losing we can probably take him with our own pick.

Yea, we may lose the next four games. Ouch.

Well maybe Bryant. I would certainly look to get a genuine pass rusher. But aside from that and a low pick rb, I think we need to grit our teeth and sort the line.

Of course if it can be partially done in FA so much the better. But I don't mean by taking old crocks and hoping they can do miracles.

Hmm using the second first rounder in two years on a WR when the offensive line is one of the worst in football and rarely able to pick up pass protection? Welcome Matt Millen to the 49erswebzone.

We have 2 1st rounders this year. I know it's hard for people to understand this but we don't have to go OL, OL, OL, OL in order to fix the line.

I also don't think it's wise to have 2 rookies on the line and another lost puppy in Rachal.
I would like to see the team pick an O-Lineman and a running back in the first. Gore will not last forever and we could use a change of pace back.
In true narrowminded zone fashion someone has yet again compared the Lions to the 49ers when a poster mentions the possibility of taking Bryant.

You want good football players and it isn't like we are overloaded with talent at WR. If Bryant is available and he is the BPA we would be FOOLS to not take him.

You always take Best Player over Biggest need unless you are loaded at the postion the BPA plays or the gap between the talent of BPA and the talent of player at your need position is very small.

Some of you need to actually remember the draft is to build for the future (that means thinking further ahead than 2010) and realize that teams with the most talent usually make runs deep into the playoffs.
It would be stupid for the Niners to draft Dez Bryant. Their wr's are fine and we just used our top pick on Crabtree. With HUGE holes at OT, OG ,CB, and FS, and an even bigger hole at OLB it simply doesnt make sense to be the Detroit Lions and keep drafting wr's.

Hell.. I forgot QB which is a huge need too! I'd draft Locker, Claussen or Bradford anyday before I took Bryant.
