Hey 99.. who is your NL MVP pick? You said Kersaw shouldnt win since he is a pitcher. You said Stanton shouldnt win since his team was crap and he wasnt near the race in BA. So.. are you picking McCutchen then for back to back? I'm pretty sure you wouldnt choose Posey for this year.
McCutchen. Without him theres no question the Pirates arent in the playoffs, and he led the NL in OPS.
Andrew doesnt even think he is the MVP of his own team. We will just have to agree to disagree on this. I think Kershaw should and will win it easily. Just like Pedro in 99 should have. When a pitcher is THIS dominant, his team wins the division, and he is clearly the best player in the league I think he should win.
Kershaw probably will win it, but im just of the opinion that MVP is a position players award. Winning the CY and the MVP seems like a double dip of recognition to me. The guy who wins the CY is being recognized as the best pitcher in his league. Nobody pays attention to the Hank Aaron award, so the best position player should get the MVP.
To me, part of winning an MVP has to do with playing a full season of games. Kershaw spent 135 of his teams' games sitting around spitting seeds. I dont care how good he was in the 27 he played in, you cant be called the best player in your league for 27 games.
Like you said, agree to disagree, but id give it to both McCutchen or Stanton before Kershaw. You know who also should receive some top 3-4 MVP votes is Jonathan Lucroy. He had an incredible season.
I understand your point and there are others that share it. I just dont .. Let me ask you this regarding best player though. If there was a draft right now of every player in the NL who would go first? I know its specualtion but I think it would be Kershaw even only playing 30-32 games per year. Stanton and McCutchen are obviously great but I doubt there is a GM worth his salt that would pass on Kershaw. If that draft were all of MLB I think Mike Trout would go #1 and Kershaw would go #2.
