I love the signing for the Cardinals. Obviously not the long-term option, but he is the insurance if Wong isn't quite ready to handle the every day job.

He was so underrated defensively when he was on the A's. His defense was great, I've barely watched him since though

That is what they were saying on MLB Network. Not the GREATEST hitter, but consistently plays above average defense.

Grant Balfour to Orioles

The Orioles have agreed to a two-year, $14MM deal with Grant Balfour, according to Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com (via Twitter).

What I dont understand is why the A's traded for Johnson who will get 10M for 1 year rather than sign Balfour to a deal like this. I'd rather have Balfour myself.

Agreed. Johnson was inconsistent down the stretch. Balfour seemed pretty consistent all year.

9 blown saves for Johnson
3 blown saves for Balfour

Both are great closers, but Balfour seems like the better deal. Johnson finished with 50 saves compared to 38 w/ Balfour. Also is 5 years younger. Guess the A's just wanted to move on and get younger.

Mobile pasting vs desktop pasting.
Funny names like Choo and Cruz are still out there while players like Balfour and Veras are getting signed.
