That is my thinking too. The guy has been up and down as a hitter, has limited range as a SS, and was suspended 50 games for roids. And they want to give thie guy over 50 million dollars? Crazy. I would have gone after Tulo or Elvis in a trade.

They want to continue the rich Cardinal tradition of having a mediocre SS. They figure, it works for Boston.

You're nuts. Peralta is a huge upgrade. They overpaid, but that was the market for a SS of his caliber at this point. This is a huge signing for the Cardinals.

Roids or not, I'd prefer you blind folded over Kozma. Peralta will be a huge upgrade.

Of course he is an upgrade but I think they massively overpaid for Peralta. I dont consider him elite in anyway but seemed like he was paid like it. We shall see though how he does roid free.

He's an above average hitter with average defense. Cardinals will take a drop off defensively, but gain quite a bit offensively. Kozma will still be on the team and can fill in defensively (one thing he's actually pretty consistent with).
I read he didn't even so steroids..it was some other banned substance.
We all agree the Cardinals overpaid, but that's what it'd take to complete one of their goals this offseason (upgrade SS offense). I'm excited to have SOME offense from the SS position. If he can provide .275 10 65 I'll be ecstatic.

I think youre overestimating Peralta...Hes an upgrade to Kozma, but so is every SS in baseball. Peralta is better than Brandon Crawford, but id much rather take Crawford for peanuts than Peralta for 53 mil.

No I'm not. I'm looking at the difference between players. Peralta is a huge upgrade over Kozma. I've admitted multiple times they over paid. They upgraded a major weakness in the lineup.
Peralta, 31, gives the Cardinals a right-handed hitter in an otherwise left-handed infield. He is a substantial upgrade over Kozma, whose .548 on-base plus slugging was the worst in the National League (minimum 140 games) in more than two decades.
