Do you guys think having Kobe at this point, who knows how good he will be, is more of a deterrent than positive to get FAs in LA? Its plausible that a lot of guys don't want to play with him because of their preconceived notion. Demanding, shoots too much, etc.

Hard to be a star when you are playing 1 on 5. And if he can't look like a star he isn't going to get his desired monster contract at 26. He needs SOME help in order to shine. Plus now he has Jordan whispering in his ear, saying people don't believe in you, learn from me.
Ya Jordan's tutelage, been touted for years. I'd guess that whisper in his ear is gonna be a little less "learn from me" and a little more "shut the f**k up" ala Larry Bird after the ear blowingate. He just went from a small market with a good team to a small market with a bad team to try to get paid, which I'm sure in Lance's head makes perfect sense.

Jordan's whispers did Kwame brown a whole lotta good.

It's a deterrent because of that atrocious contract

No teammates and Kobe stealing all his shots to increase his point total before he retires.
Lakers had more money and shots to offer, in a much bigger market. Charlotte has Kemba Walker and Al Jefferson, who are going to require more touches at this point than Kobe will. When was the last time someone became a star in Charlotte?

I think Kobe would make Lance look better in LA. Kobe's always gotten along very well with ultra-competitive guys, and I believe Lance is that. Make no mistake, Charlotte's a better team, but if you're talking about what Lance could get in LA, he'd get more shots, more shine, and the mentorship of a like-minded player who's won multiple championships. And if he was playing well, he'd never, ever fly under the radar like he probably will in Charlotte. Jordan's an owner...he's not going to be on the court with him every day, pushing him.
I do think Charlotte's a good fit though. And what I was ultimately complaining about was that the Lakers didn't make a serious run at him, not that Lance didn't pick us.

Possibly. I think the fact that we don't have a lot of talent on the team is more of a deterrent. The big time FAs are in the prime of their careers. They don't have time to wait a couple of years for the Lakers to accrue talent. The Lakers can't offer them the most money, nor can they offer them the best chance to win.

LMAO at learn from Jordan. Because look at all the amazing talent that has blossomed under Jordan in Charlotte.

It is shocking that Jordan Hill will be making the same money as Lance. Dr. Buss is turning in his grave at the leadership of this organization.

Woahh, me too. I thought he was gonna get 15 per, thats why I wanted to stay away. He is making the same amount of money as Jordan Hill.................................................................
And actually this is one of the bigger FA's we had a good chance at. He wants a short deal with considerable less money so he can shoot for a max in 2-3 years...How does he do that? A. go to a team where he will be a key option (ours), B. big market to showcase abilities and that he has matured and will cut out antics(ours), C. have a locker room with an alpha to shut him up (ours)...guess it makes sense to me but not to Mitch

WHAT! Lakers will have a couple of down years to rebuild and they will be back in contention. If he was to come to LA he would be a part of a rebuilding puzzle, but I guarantee you that when the pieces are together he would not be the Center piece AKA THE MAN in LA. He was really good and made his money this especially in the Playoffs, but let's not forget that George and Wesley took a lot of the pressure.

Lakers sign Ed Davis for $2 million over 2 years (player option for 2nd year)
Admittedly, I know nothing about Ed Davis. So I have no idea if he's a 4 or a 5 but I've got to stick him somewhere. I'm guessing we'll probably resign X and Wes Johnson to fill out the roster at this point. Gentlemen, here are your 2014-2015 Los Angeles Lakers:
PG — Steve Nash, Jeremy Lin, Kendall Marshall
SG — Kobe Bryant, Nick Young, Jordan Clarkson
SF — Wes Johnson, Xavier Henry
PF — Julius Randle, Jordan Hill, Ryan Kelly
C — Robert Sacre, Ed Davis
With some lottery luck, this team has the potential to be in the bottom 5 of the L.

Julius Randle better start and get 30+ minutes a night. I'm on the record for not being fond of this pick at all. With one game left in summer ball, he has looked like a MAN out there. And tonight against Philly, what handle and vision! Some Barkley/LO clone tonight. Not sure if this is because the competition but regardless, pleasantly surprised with him to this point.
Hope he only gets better and proves himself to be successful when the real games start in October.
