2014 MLB All Star Game/Home Run Derby Thread

These are the names that SHOULD HAVE NOT been chosen (in some cases have to since every team has to be represented)

AL

C-Jason Castro (Astros)

Sorry, but Mike Napoli has better numbers and can also play first

NL

SP-Jose Fernandez (Marlins)

There's why a couple of relievers got snubbed

SS-Everth Cabrera

Just got off the DL and Ian Desmond is much better than this guy; had to have gotten there because of his speed

OF-Carlos Gomez (Brewers)

There's other outfielders better than him; Justin Upton should have just been awarded this spot

Carlos Gomez is VERY deserving. Leads all of MLB in WAR and plays solid defense.

.313
13 HR
41 RBI
18 SB

5.4 WAR (closest are Machado at 5.0 and David Wright at 4.7)
.356 OBP
.570 SLG
.926 OPS

Numbers across the board. Thanks for the sabermetrics.

LOL Carlos Gomez has been insanely good. He has the highest WAR in all of Baseball. He might have been the most deserving OFer in baseball.

Justin Upton has been AWFUL since April. Since May 1st, hes hitting .225 with 3 HR and 19 RBI's.

You really need to pay more attention if you honestly think that Justin Upton deserved this spot over Carlos Gomez. SERIOUSLY!

As for the others its simply because their team needed a representtive
Justin Upton might be one of the worst 10 players in baseball since May. LOL at an All Star game. If he didnt have the huge contract he might have been sent to the minors.
I was pretty much basing Upton due to his position in the ALL-STAR voting process, other than that it has been disappointing that he has not been able to keep up since April.
The real snubs are in the AL:
Adrian Beltre... seriously?
Evan Longoria
Howie Kendrick

Who cares what the idiotic voting is. You said that other OFs were better than Carlos Gomez which is completely off base
THE XM FUTURES GAME

THE US TEAM

THE WORLD TEAM

Already this edition has already promoted one futures player up to the roster in Mariners shortstop Brad Miller.

lol you just looked at the voting results and assumed he was deserving.

For years now ive suggested that baseball should break up the voting into 1/2 fans, and 1/2 coaches (per league) for the entire roster, just for the game. Then at the end of the year the coaches/AP vote for the actual selections that get recorded as "All-Star's" for that season.

This way, the fans get to see who they want play in the game, the coaches can submit an educated ballot that would help their side win, and the players who get the "all-star" selection have to put in a full season of great play.
