Can't believe the Padres gave up on him so soon.

They got Yonder Alonso in the Mat Latos trade with Cincy. Since they needed pitching, they gave up Rizzo to get Cashner from the Cubs.

Either SD liked Alonso better longterm, or the Cubs demanded Rizzo. It was likely the latter, but who knows. Im glad Rizzo is out of the division.

So, the NL race is looking like it's going to come down to St Louis & San Francisco, AGAIN?

I guess there's no need to keep up with the rest of the season.

Of course, they are two best teams in the NL right now. This is even with the Giants' pitching woes.

Rizzo was originally part of the Red Sox organization. When Hoyer, who was Epstein's assistant, came aboard as GM of the San Diego Padres he got him as part of the Adrian Gonzalez deal. When Hoyer reunited with Epstein in Chicago, he made sure he obtained Rizzo.
