2013 MLB Regular Season Wrapup Discussion Thread

Of course, the ultimate result of this would be a huge advantage to the #1 seed (most likely Boston, outside chance to be Oakland)

Rays and Indians tied, Rangers one game back. Rangers could be eliminated by losing tomorrow and having Rays and Indians both win tomorrow. Im hoping they all end up tied as that would mean three elimination* games. (Two games to determine WC teams, then the actual WC game).

*Technically if the home team wins the first game no one is eliminated, as the winning team hosts the WC game and the road team can be the 2nd WC team if they win the 2nd game.

That would be totally madness; a two-round wild card, one game elimination tourney.

It would be awesome.

I did make one mistake - the 1st game only determines the road team in the 2nd game and no one is eliminated in any scenario. Losing team goes on the road to play the 2nd game whether they are the road or home team in the 1st game.

And MLB revealed today that the 1st game would be Rays @ Indians on Monday, and the 2nd game would be 1st game loser @ Rangers on Tuesday. Game 1 and Game 2 winning teams would play wild card game on Wed (home team determined by regular season tie breakers, not tie-breaker games)

Getting dizzy now.
TWO DAYS TO GO

-AL Wild Card picture is muddled

-Home field throughout the postseason still up for grabs in the NL.
Tampa Bay is in major trouble. I dont see Texas losing tomorrow with Darvish on the mound.
Might as well call the potential games on Monday and Tuesday the postseason qualifying round for the wild-card game.

Who thought this has a mini-round robin effect?

The new wild card format is terrible. The entire point of the original wild card spot was to give a non-division winner a fair chance. Now that theyve created the 1 game playoff, whichever wild card team actually wins that battle then has to enter the postseason at a significant disadvantage after burning their best SP. Now whoever wins that wild card spot has to limp in. It seems counterproductive. The penalty for not winning your division is having to concede home field to every opponent youd face. They dont need the added obstacle of losing your best SP in round 1.

Eventually a 1st wild card team will have won 97 games, and a 2nd wild card team will have won 87, and the 87 win team will pull out a controversial 1 game playoff win, and knock the 97 win team out, and then MLB will have to get back into adjusting the system again after a major outcry.

Its a nice attempt at getting more teams involved in playoff races, but there has to be a better way to do it.

You imagine how bad this could be if you had four teams tied with the same record and two wild card slots still up for grabs?
The Braves are showing you why its a bad idea to slump after punching your ticket to the postseason.

I do not like their chances against the Dodgers.
