Cardinals interested in Cliff Lee, Jonathan Papelbon
Matheny mentioned earlier that the Cardinals will explore other options possibly outside the organization to replace Tyler Lyons in the rotation. Says they are looking for a solid SP group for the long haul. Cliff Lee would be perfect. Bringing in those two would require a hefty price to pay though.

Adding Papelbon would give Rosenthal some help out there in the 8th as well leading up to Mujica.

LOL if you trade for Papelbon its not for him to be a set up man
He certainly wouldn't take over the closer role. He'd be depth in the 8th inning to help Rosenthal. If we wanted that kind of pitcher as our closer again we'd move Rosenthal to closer.

Weird game. Entire team played pretty bad tonight. Hats off to Samardzija.
