The difference being $12 million, give or take.

Dwight Howard was worried about the timetable of the Los Angeles Lakers to move on from the Kobe Bryant era if he re-signed with the team, according to sources.

Howard and his representatives told the Lakers that he would have a difficult time re-signing if Bryant remained beyond the final season of his contract in 13-14.

Bryant said publicly shortly before the Lakers' meeting with Howard that he planned to play two or three more seasons.

"How can it be Kobe's team and Dwight's team?" one source said. "It was about the passing of the torch."

Howard's camp asked if the Lakers at least considered using their amnesty provision on Bryant, according to sources.

The Lakers could have amnestied Bryant while shopping Pau Gasol and Steve Nash to teams with cap space to potentially re-sign Howard and also sign Chris Paul. But the Lakers made it clear that they would allow Bryant to decide his own future with the club.

Sources say Howard didn't feel especially close with anyone inside the Lakers except for Mitch Kupchak. Howard also had concerns about how the Lakers would market him and had been disappointed with that aspect during his lone season with the franchise.

Suggesting to the Lakers to amnesty Kobe? This mothaf**ker!

lolololol

Laker fans are in for a rude awakening come 2014. No one will play with Kobe unless he's willing to giveup his "my team, my way" rah rah speech. But you guys are too enamored with him to accept that notion.

You dont see anything wrong with Dwight Howard, who has accomplished nothing in his career, asking the Lakers to amnesty Kobe freaking Bryant so he can be more comfortable? lol Dwight is a joke

Do you blame him if the team FO is saying, he is the future. I don't care much for Stephen A Smith, but he actually spoke to Dwight and his ppl and he said when Kobe said he will play for another 3-4 years, Dwight asked Lakers if they're willing to turn the team over to him after Kobe's current deal expires. He suggested that he didn't ask Lakers to amnesty Kobe.

If that's true...IMO, that's very fair on Dwight's part.

that's more logical, but I was "loling" at the part that said Dwight asked the Lakers to amnesty Kobe.

Pau seems to like playing with Kobe, CP3 wanted to play with Kobe, Melo said he'd wanna play with Kobe, Nash came to play with Kobe, Paul George said he'd wanna play with Kobe though Indiana won't let that happen. And you're damn right we're enamored with our legendary player that helped get to 7 finals and 5 titles.

So this entire "passing of the torch" goes into effect when Dwight is 31 years old, assuming Kobe plays for another 3 years. Yea, I find something wrong with that.

From what is reported by Stephen A Smith...in the end, if Lakers will willing to fire D'Antoni and hire a coach who knew how to use Dwight - he'd have stayed.

Yeah Stephen A said it was about the coach, not Kobe. Though people are gonna blame Kobe for everything regardless.

I don't think ppl are blaming Kobe for everything. If anything, I think too much blame was placed on Dwight last year. Kobe has to share the load on offense and at times accept a lesser role if required, IMHO.

I'm talking about people who don't like the lakers blaming Kobe for anything they can, such as Dwight leaving when it appears it was about the coach.

Kobe will have to take a lesser role on offense as he gets older, I'm just not sure Dwight was the person to surrender the role too. I live Dwight on defense, but on offense, he's sort of a mess. He holds the ball too low and gets stripped often, he he doesn't have much of an ability to score unless he's fed dunks/layups. This is all after 8 years in the league. I'm not sure any of that improves at this point.
