his LA Tech team this yr led the nation in points scored - 51.5 per game and was 4th in the nation in pass yds per game 350.8
he had an interview on KNBR this morning, mentioned that his defense this season was really young, but that last season the defense was really good and they won the WAC.
38.5 pts/game given up this season
22.5 pts/game given up last season
His rankings his 3 years (2010, 2011, 2012) at LA Tech:
Yards per game: 119th, 47th, and 124th
Opponent points per game: 97th, 25th, and 115th
His DC has been the same all 3 years. Hopefully for Cal's sake, he leaves that guy in LA. Reading the guys profile is pretty funny, imo:
Tommy Spangler enters his sixth season as the defensive coordinator and safeties coach at Louisiana Tech and his reputation as one of the college football world's top defensive minds has only grown over the last few years with the Bulldogs.http://www.latechsports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/spangler_tommy00.html
During that time, Spangler has taken a Bulldog defense that ranked dead last in the country (among FBS programs) in scoring defense, rushing defense and total defense prior to his arrival and coached them into one of the top defensive units in the Western Athletic Conference.
I'm not trying to knock Sonny. Think the hire was a good one for you. I'm a huge fan of his offense. But defense is the least of his worries when it comes to coaching.
