contract year. I wouldn't fall for the trap and resign him to a multi year deal.

Always a possibility, but I think it's more that he's learned how to prepare better and has learned HOW to pitch and not just throw. I think he's made that transition from his CYA years and think he's legitimately back.

More importantly, he's virtually useless against lefties (the splits are amazingly ugly), so you'd have to pay big dollars for what is essentially a platoon LFer who ranks as one of the worst defenders in the league (UZR/150) and who is just ok as a hitter from GABP.

I dont think his splits are that way because of the park. he has hit more HRs on the road than at home, they aren't that way because of HRs thats for sure, the park is irrelevant IMO

You can think that all you want, but the numbers are the numbers. You can't just look at one stat (HR), you have to look at total production home/away, and those splits are concerning. The most important splits to me though are the L/R ABs and his defensive liabilities. He would definitely be an upgrade given the crap we've thrown out in LF the past few years, but for what he'll cost, Sabean beware.

Of course things would have to work financially.
I agree they are concerning but not too concerned. I look at the HRs because thats what you mean by benefitting from the park, right?

if you look at last years numbers he was pretty much dead even on the road and home.
