2013 San Francisco Giants Thread

Scutaro - 2nd
Belt - 1st
Posey - C
Panda - 3rd
Pence - RF
Crawford - SS
Quiche/Frenchy - LF
Torres/Blanco - CF

So far, Brown has K'd 105 times in 447 ABs. Definitely not the answer to the struggles of Blanco and Torres.

Awful year for Brown...needs to come back next year with a totally different game plan at the plate/on the base paths and a new attitude. It's a shame too since Brown really is an exciting player with a lot of great tools, he just can't seem to get it together.

That's pretty bad, but there aren't many other options available.

I would rather have Crawford lead off than Pence

No there arent. The Giants best hope is that several of their young pitchers are great next year and they can use some of them as trade chips for bats. I have no faith now that Gary Brown is ever going to be very good or that Joe Panik will be more than an average player in the majors. You just cant afford 1st round busts.

True, but the % of late round 1st round picks (like Brown and Panik) that become successful major leaguers isn't very high, especially positional players. They'll have to get lucky and find an offensive player who wants to sign here, or trade for someone as you suggested.

Scutaro isn't a bad lead off option other than the lack of speed

Skoots and Belt have the highest OBP so quantitatively, it makes sense to bat them first and second.

For now he is probably their best option.

Scutaro has no pop this year, probably thanks to a bad back.

TBH I'd rather have a Craw/Arias SS/2B Combo.

Scutaro never had much pop. He is still better than anyone else we have at 2B as of now.

he slugged .473 last year, he was getting extra base hits, he is at .386 this year.... all singles.

Arias will be an upgraded defensively and is hitting around .300 right now.
IMO, Juan Perez should be a September call-up and will have another shot to impress. He's already a plus defender with a plus arm, but he was clearly overmatched at the plate after an initial hot start (which happens to most prospects). Not saying he's the long-term answer at leadoff/CF, but he deserves a more consistent look. Unfortunately we already know what Blanco/Torres can do at CF and leadoff, so they have nothing to lose by giving Perez a shot.
