Congrats to both Christian Arroyo (2013 1st round pick) and Ryder Jones (2013 2nd round pick) for hitting their first professional HRs tonight. Btw, Jones is hitting .422 in his first 12 professional games...kid is just tearing up the AZL.

what position does Ryder Jones play?

Mostly 3rd so far.

hopefully he can play LF for us in 2 years

Were going to need him at 3rd in 2-3 years when we drop kick Sandoval's 300 lb. butt out of here.
Posey not playing tonight?

Sad part is, Sandoval could be one of the best 3rd basemen in franchise history if he just got his weight under control. He does everything but run well (hits for power/average, plays great defense and has a great arm), and who knows how fast he might be if he lost weight. He's a real talent and he's still only 26....damn shame really.

Belt is not playing, Posey at 1B

Sometimes Bochy gets to obsessed with the lefty/righty matchups, Posey should be catching and Belt should be playing first base, especially with two off days before the month is over.

It makes no sense, because Belt hits lefties better than righties. Career splits:

vs. LHP - .278 avg.

vs. RHP - .254 avg.

Belt's approach at the plate it middle away, so when he faces a lefty, the movement breaking outward is right in his zone. Never understood why Bochy sits him against lefties.

Me neither. Makes no sense.

What are Belt's stats against lefties this season?

Even better. .302 against lefties, .253 against righties.

agreed, I would make this deal in a heartbeat.

2014:

Vogey reries, Zito not retained:

Timmy resigns for 2 yr deal.

1) Cain R
2) MadBum L
3) Norris R
4) Timmy R
5) Surkamp? L

Gaudin has been great so far. If he keeps it up he would be far better than Surkamp.

Never understood the fascination with Surkamp. You have to be pretty special to get big league hitters out with a 87-88 MPH 2-seam/4-seam fastball, and I never saw Surkamp as all that special. Maybe as a LH relief specialist, ok...but as a major league starter???

i only wrote that b/c I believe we need Gaudin in the pen.

You don't think Gaudin has shown enough to stay in the rotation?

he def has, but we need a good setup guy just as much as a 5th rotation guy.

A starter is FAR more important than a set up guy. The Giants need Gaudin in the rotation and need Casilla to step up in the 8th
good job fat boy

Hopefully Quiroz will get a hit or two and neither him or Posey screw up defensively. Otherwise if the Giants lose I certainly will be second guessing Bochy on this one.

In terms of wearing out Posey, they just had the all star break, and will have two off days before the month is over so I don't buy this as an excuse to put Posey at 1B and benching Belt
