Definitely think Pagan is a better overall player than Skoots is, but not a better hitter "since joining the Giants" (which is all I care about) and definitely doesn't get on base as much as Marco does. For example, I'd rather have Scutaro at bat in a clutch situation than just about anyone, definitely more so than Pagan....and I'm a huge AP fan.
Btw, yes more Perez! I was posting about him last month saying he was the most interesting player in Fresno, though I messed up and said he was a switch hitter (he's clearly not). But IMO he was the best player on the Grizzlies roster the first 2 months and definitely the most versatile.

okay but would Scutaro hit better at say the 7 hole rather than the 2 with Pence, Posey, and Panda behind him??

I don't think anyone would hit better in the 7th hole as opposed to behind those guys. But I'm not sure why that's relevant since neither Pagan nor Scutaro hit 7th. I don't think Pagan needs to hit better than Scutaro to be more effective, since hitting lead-off is a difficult thing to do. I do think Pagan needs to get on base at a higher percentage than he does though. Since Scutaro's OBP is near .390 with the Giants, I think he's just a much more effective presence at the plate.

my point is Scutaro's numbers are elevated based on hitting 2nd. If Pagan was hitting 2nd, his numbers IMO would be drastically better than leadoff.

Agree with ghost that Pagan's on base percentage is much lower than you want at the leadoff spot. He has had spurts where he was awesome, like at the beginning of the year when he was hitting .315-.330. Once he had the hammy inssue, his numbers dropped. He does not walk enough.

Probably, but all I can go on is what they've done where they're at, and right now, Scutaro is making the most of his situation. Pagan is very good, but not great as a lead-off hitter. Historically, they're similar hitters no doubt about it, but since joining the Giants, Scutaro has been more consistently impactful.

yeah I agree with that, I just wish we had Pagan at the 2 and a guy like Blanco/Perez leading off more often

Hmmmm....if/when healthy, Scutaro is probably the best #2 guy in the game right now so I wouldn't mess with that. But since they're both out right now, I guess it's a moot point.

You are also comparing Scutaro (4600 career ABs) to Pagan (2600) .... pretty significant different.
Scutaro is a better hitter now than he was earlier in his career.
His has the best approach/plate discipline on the team.

I got a question
Does anyone know when our top rated prospect heading into the season Kyle Crick is going to make his next start?
He seems to have been on the DL for a long time

If Scooter could steal a bag, he'd be batting lead off no doubt in my mind. I still think Pagan should get moved to left when he gets back and Blanco should be playing in CF considering he plays the best defense there.

From Baggs last Sunday:
The Giants hope to get top prospect Kyle Crick back soon, too. He's throwing in extended spring after hurting his oblique in his third start of the season in mid-April.
