I should clarify: Del Negro wasn't fired as coach. He was informed that he won't be offered a new contract to return. His deal has expired.

I certainly hope that a big part of this is hoping to appeal to CP3, because otherwise this is a terrible trade.

Answer: it doesn't. If any of this pans out those will go down as the dumbest trades in recent memory.
