It is no secret that the Los Angeles Lakers would like to trade for Dwight Howard or Chris Paul, but sources with knowledge of the situation says the Lakers actually have something greater in mind: acquiring both players.

Hoping to pull off a pair of blockbuster moves that would rock the NBA, the Lakers are willing to trade anyone on their roster outside of Kobe Bryant to bring Howard and Paul to Los Angeles, two sources said.

Whether the Lakers are able to make it happen remains to be seen, but with stars Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom on the roster, they have the talent and the financial capacity to make the trades work.

Wtf? The lake show don't have enough to get either

pau to hornets and bynum and odom to orlando with LA helping orlando by taking turkoglu's bad contract. lakers most definitely have the pieces to get 1 or both

the problem is the hornets cant deal with the team they want because cp3 is holding them hostage and wont commit long term to that team. the warriors can put a package focusing on monta plus but can you expect paul signing long term there.. no. clips have a good amount of young talent to give except griffin but once again can you see paul committing with donald sterling and the clippers? the knicks dont have s**t to give up since they blew their load on carmelo and the hornets must make a deal or lose cp3 for nothing

I respectfully disagree. Odom and Bynum are not worth Howard (regardless of Hedo's contract) and while Pau is a good player, he is not worth a 26 year old Paul. Not to mention DAL, HOU and BOS have all just come out and said they will trade for an unextended Paul. I have a feeling he'll end up in BOS in a deal centered around Rondo.

Someone is high in the Lakers front office. Anything is possible, but I highly highly doubt that CP3 is traded till new ownership is in place and approves the trade. NBA owns this team, so it will make zero sense to trade the biggest asset on the roster unless they get a star player back in the trade.

From Orlando's point of view, getting Bynum for Howard as opposed to nothing or some other BS is really worth it. Bynum, a young and talented better who hasn't even hit his prime yet. For NO, Gasol maybe their best return also.
You guys who are saying this is impossible are missing the point. Can someone like the Hornets get something better than Gasol in return for CP3? Of course. Can they get something better than Gasol in return for CP3 from a team that CP3 wants to go to? That's a different ball game. Hoov...he's not going to end up in Boston because he's already said that he won't sign an extension there. Why trade Rondo to rent CP3 for a year and then lose him.

Reports are that he wants to go to the Knicks, Lakers, or Magic (to team up with Howard). Can you think of a better offer than Gasol for CP3 from those teams, assuming that Howard's not involved? Maybe Amare, although playing with Melo & Amare is reportedly why CP3 wants to go there in the first place.

4ML makes the best point regarding why CP3 won't be traded to the Lakers...at least not yet. It's the ownership deal. The Lakers are gonna go into the season with a relatively similar roster to last year.

We're also about to sign Jason Kapono. (whoopty-doo)
