or a uniform of a team that STILL leads their league in WS titles

or...the only team that didn't buy all their titles

I know you secretly want the Cards logo to be this:

And lets be honest jrg, 2 of the Cards WS titles came in 1942 and 1944, when a ton of the real players were in the service for WWII. You have 11 official WS titles, but 9 in seasons where teams were at full strength.

Ultimately, the Cards have more titles than the Giants, but we have you beat in every other aspect. More wins, more pennants, more HOFers, a richer history, Mays > Musial, 982-903 all time against STL, etc.

All joking aside, both are top 5 franchises all time, which makes the rivalry cool.

Consider:

• DeWitt's Cardinals haven't come close to the Yankees in the number of postseason triumphs. But why would we expect otherwise? Over the last 17 seasons the Yankees have spent $1.3 billion more than the Cardinals in total payroll. (That was not a typo. To repeat: $1.3 billion.)

• Since 2004 the Cardinals have won more postseason games (41 to 31) and more World Series titles (2 to 1) than the Yankees.

• Since 1996 the Red Sox have outspent the Cardinals by $535 million, and the Cardinals have as many World Series titles as Boston – and 18 more postseason wins than Boston.

• Since 1996 the Braves have outspent the Cardinals by $78 million and haven't matched the Cardinals' postseason success.

• The Philadelphia Phillies have made it to the postseason five times in the last six seasons; the Cardinals have gotten there three times in the last six years. But the Phillies have outspent the Cardinals by $204 million over the last six seasons. And despite that, the Cardinals have more postseason wins, pennants and World Series titles than Philly since 2007.

• During DeWitt's 17 seasons, the Cardinals have outspent the Giants by $52 million. But again: the Cardinals have four more postseason appearances and 23 more postseason wins than San Francisco.

• The Cardinals aren't even the biggest-spending team in the NL Central. In DeWitt's 17 years, the Chicago Cubs have had a higher payroll than the Cardinals nine times, and have spent $120 million more than St. Louis overall.

It's always fun and exciting to see your favorite team throw money around. If the Cardinals take a prudent approach this offseason, some fans may be disappointed. But it's awfully hard to argue with the bottom line over the last 17 seasons. DeWitt knows what he's doing.

Freese in a car accident. Article says he will probably hit .250 next year because of it. Shame.

He was probably going to hit .250 anyway.

At least now he has an excuse.

Don't get him confused with your mediocre lineup.

Then your pitching staff must be less than mediocre.
