The Sharks have traded forward Brandon Mashinter to the New York Rangers in exchange for forward Tommy Grant and a conditional seventh round pick in 2014. Grant has been assigned to the Sharks' AHL affiliate in Worcester.

Grant, 26, has nine goals and seven assists for 16 points and 15 penalty minutes in 34 games with the AHL Connecticut Whale this season. In 113 career AHL games over three seasons, all with Connecticut, Grant has 20 goals and 22 assists for 42 points and 56 penalty minutes. Prior to joining the Whale, Grant spent four years at the University of Alaska-Anchorage.

Backups: Irwin, Petrecki (one of these likely to play until Burns is healthy)
