I grew up with Venezuela being called the "Cinderella" of CONMEBOL, we always lost, ALWAYS, and often times by 3, 4,5 or even 6 goals. I've witnessed Venezuelan soccer take each step to become a team you can no longer roll over with your backups, we're now in every game, coming very close to making it to the last World Cup and being among the top teams in these qualifiers. Copa America, the equivalent of the Euro Cup in CONMEBOL, is the oldest tournament in soccer history - we hadn't gone past the group stage til the second to last tourney, and we backed it up again in the last tourney making it to the semis.
Today we host Chile in a qualifier match, I think I've stated before how good I think Chilean soccer is at the moment, and I really think we can pull of the win today and stay among the top teams in the qualifier.
Quakes lose 0-1. They brought Wondo and Lenhart off the bench in the 2nd half. Completely turned the game around, but they just couldn't get one in. The ref lost complete control of the game. Making bad calls both ways and eventually handed out a red card to Gordon in extra time. A lot of pushing and shoving after the game. Nothing materialized (as usual )
