Is Stephen Strasburg really the next Nolan Ryan?

They are in the business of making money. Why wouldnt they hype Strasburg, LeBron, Heyward, etc, etc etc. They would be pretty stupid if they didnt. Stars are what drives ratings and they are in the ratings business.

I agree with FL that it's really obnoxious, but you're right about the reality, John. They have several different mediums to fill with "news", so they gotta do what they gotta do in order to get ratings.

Hell, they've spent the last week talking about how Dez Bryant wouldn't carry Roy Williams' shoulder pads, for chrissakes.

I dont think ESPN is the only culprit though. Now we have the NFL network that will spend the entire day talking about TO signing with the Bengals. TBS and the MLB channel also hyped Strasburg incredibly putting his games everytime on national TV.

It isnt just sports either. Hell, look at all of the TV gossip shows and how they hype and go crazy over people like Lindsay Lohan. It is obnoxious but I get it. People want to follow stars and these networks do everything they can make some people bigger than life almost.

Yeah he's gonna either have to hold back on those heaters or do something with his mechanics if he wants to stay on as a starter for the rest of his career. He'd make one hell of a closer though. lol

he's great.. but who knows if he has the longevity

His career is going to be like one of those expensive, high-profile roller coasters that always breaks down and ultimately gets removed years before it's fulfilled its financial worth.

Considering how many fans Strasburg brought to games this year they're not shoving anything down our throats that we don't want.

People have a general interest in seeing the next star break out. See American Idol's success.

All pitchers can have bad games. Im sure you are watching the reigning back to back CY winner getting hammered by a team that has lost 11 of their last 12 and has given a splash HR to a slug like f**kadome
