According to TSN and the NHL Network's Darren Dreger, the unrestricted free agent is visiting Southern California for some face-to-face negotiations with Kings GM Dean Lombardi. Rumors are also swirling that a deal is already in place and will be announced tomorrow, but Lombardi told TSN's Bob McKenzie that it's "utterly false."

Even Lombardi has been quoted as saying a contract signing isn't imminent.

Apparently they're nearing a deal.
And at the Stars grabbing Lukowich. As if that will help them at all.

He isn't playing for our NHL club, he will be playing on our minor league team.
Last year, he played on our minor league team and did pretty well for them in the AHL (29 games, 18pts).
Lukowich actually originally came up through our farm system (3rd round pick). He will be a good veteran presence on our minor league team.

I'm not sure people remember Luko that well in his short time here. Wallin (based on what he did with us last year) might give him a run for his money on who could be worse, but Huskins is better than Luko. Though, that's not saying much.
SD, If Luko is being signed only to play for the AHL, then that's completely understandable. I was unaware of those intentions. The move otherwise would obviously not be a smart one if they intended for him to be one of their active 6 defensemen.

Also, Simon Gagne traded to Tampa -- The Lightning just got better offensively: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=534624
If he stays healthy, that'll be a great move.

After a twist-filled script that lasted the better part of three weeks, Kovalchuk wrapped up hockey's version of a long-running summer blockbuster Monday by surprisingly re-signing with New Jersey, a move that startled the hockey world who had expected Kovy to sign with Los Angeles.
But Kovalchuk spurned the advances of Hollywood, in the form of the Kings, who had made several aggressive offers and even hosted the Russian winger in a college recruiting-style visit last week. In fact, several sources had reported that the Kings were very close to signing Kovalchuk -- agreeing on term and length of contract, but still needing to hammer out the nuances of a no-movement clause and the like.
Throughout, New Jersey President and General Manager Lou Lamoriello never backed out of the courtship process. His patience paid off with Monday's surprising announcement, which came just minutes after Kovalchuk's agent, Jay Grossman, used his Twitter feed to say his client would announce his destination later Monday.
"Ilya is excited to be continuing his career with New Jersey and knows first-hand the team's dedication and commitment to winning," Grossman said after the Devils announced the deal just before noon.
The Devils are excited to see what he can do in a full season with a team that feels it still has a legitimate chance at a title this coming season.

It didn't take long for that theory to be validated, as Philadelphia waited less than three hours after news broke about Kovalchuk re-upping with the Devils to deal veteran forward Simon Gagne to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for defenseman Matt Walker and Tampa Bay's fourth-round pick in the 2011 Entry Draft.
If he stays healthy, that'll be a great move.

Kovalchuk's contract with the Devils voided by the league due to attempted salary cap circumvention. Kovi was going to play for $550K per the last 4 years of that deal?

Canucks just suffered a serious blow to their depth. Anytime you lose a guy who can put up 30 points and be +14 on D, that's significant.
