Okay... Once again, the Kings are out of the Kovy sweepstakes. In all likelihood, it seems Kovalchuk is just going to re-sign with New Jersey. I haven't heard anything about any other team willing to give him more money.

Quote:
According to Elliott, the Kings reportedly offered him $63 million across 12 years, an annual cap hit of $5.25 million, or $84.5 million across 13 years, an annual cap hit of $6.5 million.

It is believed that Kovalchuk is looking for a deal that will pay him close to $10 million annually.
Quote:
The Devils reportedly have offered Kovalchuk $60 million in a seven-year deal. It is believed that they would have to move some salary to get that deal under the cap, however.

There are also several reports that Russian club SKA St. Petersburg has made an offer for Kovalchuk. SKA signed former NHL goalie Evgeni Nabokov to a long-tern deal on Wednesday.

I know Kovalchuk is an amazing offensive talent, but at some point, you start wondering if it's more about the money with him rather than being a team player and winning the Cup.

The only teams I can see able to sign him at this point are some of the bottom feeders who have lots of cap space.
I'm tired of the Kovi soap opera. Just sign somewhere already.
just sign with the sharks for a yr or 2 win a cup then bounce speaking of kovalchuk

what? a 17 and 15 year deal? He is 27, if he could play 10 more season that would be an accomplishment.

And if players retire, their salary keeps counting against the cap for the length of the contract.

No he's just waiting for the rangers to find room for him.Now that dolan didn't get lebron i would be shocked not to see kovy in a ranger uniform. He wants to be a ranger. They just have to get rid of redden and rozi first.Alot harder to do then just saying it.

Next years draft will be really fun. Lots of great American forwards.

Shane McClogun - A Californian!!!! In the WHL he had 69 pts in 71 games. For some reason he is left out of the top 10 by some scouts? He put up some pretty impressive numbers for a 16 year olds first taste of Canadian Juniors.

Brandon Saad - Was on US Development team. Will be playing in the OHL next season. Physically mature (6-2, 195lbs) power forward.

Mathew Nieto - Also on US development team, lead team in scoring. another CALIFORNIAN!!! I think he is going to Boston U. next year.

Seth Ambroz - Another power forward with great size. Played in the USHL last season and passed up a chance to be a 17 year old playing for Minnesota to play in the USHL again.
