Charlie Weis is out after five seasons as Notre Dame coach, the New York Daily News is reporting.
The newspaper cited a source close to the program for its report.
Notre Dame players have scheduled a mid-afternoon players meeting for Monday while awaiting official word on Weis. The meeting will include a vote on whether the players want to play in a bowl game after their 6-6 season. Athletic director Jack Swarbrick has said he will consider the players' wishes in deciding on a bowl trip.
Weis was not in his office early Monday, though there were no announcements about whether he will return for a sixth season. Swarbrick has said he will make that decision within the next few days.

I read on espn from my phone so I can't provide a link that Weis said he has gotten calls from 6 nfl teams that are interested in him being their oc. Think we were one of them?

nope.
It was also reported on Tony Kornheiser's radio show that Weis had cleared out his office.

Yeah that is a rumor that was swirling. I doubt we showed interest in him....possibly once the season is over but not right now.

I would think that unless our O completely tanks in the next 5 games that we will move forward with Raye.

I would assume so as well but it is possible Scot and Jed put pressure on Sing to remove Raye if they are unhappy with his offense. Thus why the only possibility would be once the season is over.

I am positively sure that we will NOT go after Weis. I think Sing will give Raye another year, just for continuity purposes.....which really sucks!!!!

I'm sure we could keep the same system if they think Mike Johnson could do the job and fire Raye.

I wonder if Clausen and Tate are as good as gone now?
My guess is both are gone

Likely yes however I'm sure whoever the new coach will be will sit down with both and try and convince them to come back for their senior year (I'd bet Swarbrick does the same). Having those 2 players for the new coaches first year would be huge for whoever that will be.
From Tate himself :
Quote:
"It was great to see those guys leaving with a smile and enjoying it," Tate said. "I'd love to play another game with the seniors and send them off the right way."
Tate too could be one experiencing a sendoff. The junior is considering leaving for the NFL, and will meet with family on Friday and consult with Weis. Whoever is the new coach also could play a role.
"It's going to make a difference," Tate said. "I don't know which way it will make a difference. It could make a good difference (or) a bad difference."
Also making a difference will be the decision of quarterback Jimmy Clausen.
"I think at this point ... what Jimmy does is very important on my decision," Tate said.

Recruits respond to ND coaching change
By JIM MEENAN and BOB WIENEKE
Tribune Staff Writers
The reply was quick, four minutes to be exact. An answer about Chris Martin's future, however, may not come for a long time.
Martin, when contacted Monday after the announcement that Notre Dame football coach Charlie Weis had been fired, said in a text message that he is not doing any interviews until the Feb. 3 national signing day.
In terms of ND's recruiting class of 2010, which currently includes 18 players, Martin is the highest rated. And it can be logically deduced that the defensive end/linebacker will be the most heavily pursued by schools looking to poach Notre Dame's list.
Martin said this summer he would keep his options open in case something happened to Weis, and he recently visited Oklahoma. He has not, however, publicly decommitted.
"He's always been the wildcard. With Weis gone at least, obviously it leaves it open that Martin's going to be looking at other schools," CBS College Sports Network recruiting analyst Tom Lemming said. "He could be a guy they lose."
But at least six players — wide receivers Tai-ler Jones and Bennett Jackson, cornerback Toney Hurd, defensive end Justin Utupo, offensive lineman Christian Lombard and tight end Alex Welch — contacted by The Tribune Monday after Weis' firing indicated they remain firm in their commitments.
Plus, quarterback Tommy Rees of Lake Forest, Ill., said prior to the Nov. 21 Connecticut game he planned on honoring his commitment to Notre Dame, even if Weis got fired.
In addition, several other players told fellow recruits they plan to honor their commitments.
Linebacker recruit Kendall Moore, a four-star recruit from Raleigh, N.C., said Prince Shembo, a defensive end/linebacker recruit from Charlotte, N.C., and Lo Wood, a cornerback from Apopka, Fla., have been recruiting him to stay firm with Notre Dame.
"They are both trying to keep me cool," Moore said. "They both are a lot better than me about the whole situation."
Jones verified that he, too, had heard from Wood, who told him he planned on remaining committed.
Neither Wood nor Shembo could be reached for comment Monday.
Daniel Smith of South Bend Clay High School could not be reached for comment but his football coach at Clay, Joe Szajko, said Monday he believes Smith remains firm in his commitment.
The same goes for Cameron Roberson, a running back from Newbury Park, Calif., where Doug Dagan, an assistant coach at the school, said there was no change in Roberson's commitment.
"I know that he loves the university," Dagan said. "It would take something freaky" for him to change his mind.
Moore said he plans to remain committed although the door isn't completely closed on a backup plan.
"I definitely am firm as far as my decision goes because I did not choose Notre Dame just because of the coaches, even though they have a great coaching staff," said Moore.
Moore, however, also said he plans to have some options while not totally reopening his recruiting.
He will look into North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina, Florida State and Georgia Tech.
"I need to have a strong backup plan," Moore said. "Because right now ... I don't have a strong back-up plan."
Moore said recruiting has picked up "a whole bunch" after quieting down after his summer commitment to Notre Dame.
Welch, Jackson, Jones, Hurd and Lombard affirmed they remain strong in the Irish corner.
"When I chose Notre Dame, I chose it for more than the coaching staff and who would be my coach when I was there," explained Jones, the son of former Notre Dame defensive end/linebacker Andre Jones.
Jones, a former Stanford commitment, switched to Notre Dame in October.
Welch said he found Monday's announcement "depressing," even if he saw it coming.
"I figured it was going to happen," said the 6-foot-5, 230-pound tight end from Cincinnati Elder. "I was disappointed. I wanted them to give him another chance. I like all of his staff. They gave me an opportunity to go to Notre Dame."
But he remains in Notre Dame's corner.
"I committed not just to (Weis) but to the school, too," Welch said.
Hurd said Notre Dame assistant coach Rob Ianello had contacted him Monday night. Ianello will handle football operations until a new coach is named.
"I am going to remain committed to Notre Dame throughout the process," Hurd said.
Utupo said he would look into having a back-up plan.
"Right now, it is still Notre Dame for me," he said.
Lombard said there would be no change in his commitment.
"That's why I committed to the university," he said. "The school is guaranteed."
Ianello said seven coaches would be on the road the next three days, talking to committed players first as well as seeing uncommitted players with whom Notre Dame is still involved.
Recruiting analyst Tom Lemming called the move to keep Ianello in charge smart because of his ties to recruiting the last five years.
"It's going to be awfully tough until a coach is named," Lemming added. "The longer it takes the more likely they are to lose players. But if they could get it done fairly quickly, a coach could come in and go see these guys right away and keep them all calm, the important ones."

That's what I'm afraid will happen. Look on the bright side no one will look to hire Raye away from us!
