Bolt 9.58!

You can kind of see it it this vid but I saw another one and the the best part is at the end when he is taking his 'jog' around the track and the photogs are following him taking pictures.

Anyway, the photogs are running ALL OUT and they are losing ground to Bolt who is just jogging. Too funny...

I liked that part, the guys are busting their asses and can hardly get their cameras up they are running so hard, and Bolt is just coasting.
Anyone know his 40 time?

Get the youtube vid, and press pause when you think he's hit 40 yards. You should have your answer.

100 m = 109.361 yards

109.361 yards divided by 40 yards = 2.734025

9.58 divided by 2.734025 = 3.50399

3.50399 seconds for 40 yards

If it was only that easy. I can run 1 meter in 0.10 seconds which means I can run the 100 in 10 seconds.

that just means he could run it even faster...

No, it doesn't. He probably doesn't reach full speed until at least halfway through. It's not as if he starts at top speed and stays there.

I don't know, I think I can reach full speed before I get to half of the meter...wait a second....

He is starting from still position...and he is a big guy with long strides - you gotta take both of those things in account, which will slow down his 40 time.

^^^ Yup. Bolt's worst part of his run is his start. Being 6'5, he doesn't get out of the blocks well. That 9.58 run was his best start in a while, and he still came up too fast. Sprinters have to stay low and come up gradually out of the blocks, which he didn't do. Basically, Bolt's first 40 meters are the worst 40 meters of his race.

That said, he'd still probably run around 4.05 or something.
For those quick to doubt, the IAAF said there were no positive test in the 100 meters. So it's a clean run, just like I always thought.

But knowing that he starts slow, man, that's some amazing top speed to make up for the slow start.

Wow. So 60-80 m is the fastest split, generally. I guess that makes sense.

Yea, I was going to guess that these guys run the last 40 meters at the top speed.
