Napier once again talking ways to land Rubio.
Like I mentioned right after the draft lottery, he wasn't a fan of drafting him and now all of a sudden, he's on the bandwagon to somehow land him.

I haven't listened to Grant's show in a while but could it be that he was anti Rubio if the Kings had the number one pick? (which most would be becaue Griffen is the consensus #1) Now that they are fourth Rubio sounds like a great pick? Why is that a big deal that he wants Rubio now?

Or I guess I may have mis-read your post. You say he was anti Rubio even after they got stuck with #4?

No he was anti Rubio before the lottery.
He said he talked with "insiders" that said Rubio wasn't a sure bet to be the 2nd pick after Griffen and some thought he wasn't a top half of the lottery pick and it seemed as Napier picked up on that and ran with it for weeks and has been pretty anti really until about the minutes after the draft lottery.
Then he thought it was a possibility that Rubio could fall to the Kings at 4 since it's presumed by some that MEM and OKC don't need a PG with each team having a young PG drafted in the past few years with Conley and Westbrook...and now with the news today that Rubio doesn't want to play in either of those cities, it's almost like an 180 now and that he's pretty pro Rubio after not thinking much of him at all weeks beforehand.
Said Rubio would "own" this town if he went to SAC.

Well that sounds pretty much like how I felt. I would have wanted Griffin #1 but after that I wanted Rubio. And I also think Rubio would be great for Sac Town, the fans etc. Pretty much sounds like Grant and I are on the same wavelength. Heh.

Not sure about that.
Napier from what I was hearing wouldn't have made Rubio a lock for the #2 pick , that is what I believe was his mentality the past week or two.
Would you have drafted Rubio 2 if SAC was at that spot because mostly everybody thought Rubio was a lock for #2, Napier didn't think so and thought after Griffen, it was a crapshoot in terms of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th picks in this draft in terms of what players would be selected at each spot.

I think Rubio would be a lock if we were at #2, for me anyway. We NEED a PG and a leader, which I think Rubio could be... a fan favorite, the whole energizer/distibutor thing.
Just a random thought here.. back in the day when we drafted Jason Williams he was a major spark towards our turnaround. I think that was a good pick.. however we could have drafted Paul Pierce or Dirk.. who knows what would have happened if we switched that around.

True but you traded Williams then for Bibby who was huge for you guys in that 01-02 season and was probably the best player in the west finals.

I don't know, I'm not in love with Rubio...Am I the only one?
No complaints if Rubio is the pick, but I'm just not in the crowd that will be hoping he falls.
I'd be perfectly happy with Jonny Flynn or Tyreke Evans in our spot.
I question how well Rubio could be a leader, partly because of the language barrier. He speaks "OK" English, but do people think he could really come in here and lead (which we need out of the PG spot)?
I think a guy like Jonny Flynn could step right in to the role. He's got a swagger I think his teammates would respond to.

I'll admit I don't follow college that hard or the over seas game for that matter. But if he can be a distributor with a little flash and be productive then he could develop into a leader and a fan favorite.
Maybe it's not the right pick for us. I don't know but I do like what I've seen of Rubio. I won't fight whoever we pick. I'll just have to trust Geoff Petrie who I believe will pick the best player for us at that spot.

To be honest I feel the exact same way. I'd be happy with Ricky, but I would be probably just as happy with Flynn or Evans. I really liked Flynn's game for a long time. He would be a good player for us IMO. He's good at creating for teammates, he's good at getting into the lane, he's a clutch player, and like you said he has that swagger.

Haven't heard anything. Rambis and Thibodeau were supposed to be the next to interview. Petrie wants to have a coach in place by the draft.

If the kings drafted rubio would he go straight to the nba or develop more over in the international league, like most international players.
