Most playing time wouldn't have meant much if the team didn't have the success late in the season, winning 6 out of the last 7 games.
I know the Garoppolo effect had a lot to do with it, but at least we know the team can win playing so many of these rookies, and they are only going to get better.

How about that 2017 rookie class?

Also, Colbert and Witherspoon are definite starters. Both stepped up big and showed they will likely be nice players.
Solomon Thomas might never be a superstar, but he also wont be a bust. His floor is a solid starting interior DL.
I think you answered your own question. Both haven't played, so it is possible they might be misses. If they were clearly good, on a terrible roster, they would be playing more.
I don't agree that Colbert and Witherspoon are 'definite' starters. As the roster stands, absolutely, but there may be big changes. Not like they made the pro bowl. Just as you say, they will 'likely' be nice players.
And for Thomas, post says 'possible bust for #3 overall'. Which is relative. Solid starting interior DL would be nice, could be way worse, but some might expect more from that draft position.

I love the instant reviews but you can't fairly judge this group until after their 3rd season.

Agree completely, can't say 100% yet.
But, relative to other teams this year and other 49ers drafts after one season of work, clearly a lot to be excited about!

I like that we actually had a draft not filled with projects, depth players and injury cases.
For giggles the other day I was checking out how Kittle did this season vs McDonald... 43 catches for 515 yards vs 14 catches for 188.

Just wait until Vance gets a real QB throwing to him.

Great draft! Six starters or solid contributors - Thomas, Foster, Witherspoon, Taylor, Kittle, Colbert, maybe more depending on how the rest of the class develops.
I was tired of Baalke's drafts where we would get a couple of players who couldn't get off the bench and a couple of players on IR. Remember Marcus Martin and Brandon Thomas?

Let us not forget about a great waiver wire pick up in Sheldon Day, who I believe has two years left on his contract.
With long term coaching contracts the coaches played the youngsters early, they got bumped and bruised but improved. Better than bringing in vets that ca nplay half the season get you two more wins but get worn down at end of season. Belichek and carroll always start a few youngsters in the beginning of the year, they suck it uup but are improving by end of the season and strong for run in play offs.
Please stop calling Solomon Thomas a Bust. We know what a bust looks like in round 1, someone who has played a lot his rookie season and will only improve is not a bust.

I was just having this conversation with my Dad today. This is the most under reported story of the year. Cant wait to see what a full offseason and weight room will do for these guys going forward.

Looks like the makings of a really, really good class. On a team this bereft of talent nailing a bluechip prospect and a bunch of solid starters is really a dream scenario.
Gonna do a + and - for each guy for his first year, just for fun
Solomon Thomas: + Great Hustle Player / - Lack of push and pressure in pass rush
Reuben Foster: + Vicious hitter and great in run support / - Gets washed out and always banged up
Ahkello Witherspoon: + Great some plays and surprisingly competent tackler / + Gets beat deep sometimes, which ain't good for this scheme
C.J. Beathard: + Takes a hit really well / - Holds the ball too long, and doesn't throw a football very well
Joe Williams: + N/A / - Showed up out of shape with fumbleitis and study problems.
George Kittle: + Great athleticism / - Not yet the blocker he was advertised as
Trent Taylor: + Chain mover from the slot / - Occasional dropsies, and phantom penalty magnet
D.J. Jones: + Held POA well in limited snaps early / Off the 46 in the back half of the year
Pita Taumoepenu: + Is fast or something / - I guess is fast or something
Adrian Colbert: + Heat seeker in run support and a dart from middle thirds in coverage / - small sample size, gets nicked up, and doesn't wrap up
Victor Bolden: + Some returns sparks in pre-season / - was a waste of roster spot in the regular season
Kendrick Bourne: + Was open more than his stats show / - Never fully beat out Louis Murphy despite Murphy's ineffective and bonehead play
Matt Breida: Great quicks and good scheme fit / Doesn't do much beyond first contact

Not sure if anyone else had as good a draft this year?
We got mega production from this class.
Bruh. See the Saints draft. They got 2 stars and a pro bowl center. Best draft by far.

They got 3 in PFF's top 5, and 4 in their top 10. So far that was an absolute monster of a draft for 'em.

And I thought they were nuts trading Cooks. But they won that deal. Hopefully we can add 2 guys this year that gives us a boost.
