This.... Teams like the Patriots, Saints, Packers, and Seahawks had been picking towards the end of the draft consistently year after year and they're still elite. Meanwhile, Browns, Bears and the Niners had been picking at the top of the draft and they still suck arse. So 7-9 it is. Its all about evaluating talent and a sh!t load of LUCK in the draft. 7-9 will attract some talented FA knowing that we're heading in the right direction, it will also scare some teams for next year and will earn us some respect, because rite now, we're the laughing stock of the NFL and no one is scared of us.
They're elite because of coaching and they have the top position taken care of (QB) it's not rocket science and it's also a bunch of luck (getting that right QB).
IF you don't have a QB you want to draft at the top plain and simple...Trent was a moron when it came to valuing qb. They could have very easily move up for wentz/Goff or even drafted Dak (like chip wanted) but he went defense like he did most yrs. I have more faith in the current FO.
Having early picks and actually drafting WELL is what builds a team into a championship caliber squad. So yeah going 7-9 is cute but doesn't help us with anything...this roster is talent deprived and if we already have a possible FQB we're in a unique position come draft day to get more talent (in trade downs).
Teams like NE, NO, and our SF team from the 80s-90s sucked prior to their success and guess what they drafted well and set themselves up for the long haul.
