I can tell you Shanny's #7 all time offense in Atl had Julio Jones to throw to not Marquise Goodwin. It's not happening without weapons either. Don't Baalke it up for us again. The line does not make a passing attack it only breaks it. If there was a great Lt early I'd consider it because of Staley but I got to say no to a top 10 guard or right tackle.

Wide receivers have been getting open every single game. Many times in the endzone. You can look through the game film review thread weekly for examples. The QB either doesn't see them or is too busy running for their life.
Shanahan is excellent at scheming guys open. What he can't do is scheme mediocre linemen into not getting blown off the line of scrimmage play after play.
They need upgrades at WR and RB but all the offensive weapons in the world don't mean diddly squat if you can't block for your RB and protect your QB. If your QB goes down, your season is over, regardless of who you have running routes out there.
VERY well put!
That's why I don't want JG playing behind that crap OLine.
IMO, this season has been over for a while and I don't care if we go 0-16.
I want the #1 pick so we can parlay it into multiple excellent picks.
Get 2-3 Excellent OLine FA and pay them.
they can help groom our draft picks.
AND Jimmy G isn't sacrificed to an already lost season.

Look at the difference adding Alex Mack made for Atlanta and how much more potent the 2016 offense was compared to 2015.
Blocking is everything. Without an OL, you can have all the weapons in the world and it won't matter a whole lot if your QB is always in fear for their life.

You can upgrade the line thru a variety of means like Atl did with Mack in free agency. Or look at the Rams.. Same goes for all positions but I don't think g, rt carries a top 10 grade. Chances are when Staley retires very soon here you'll be going right back to that well.

The best OLs tend to be built largely through the draft. Its not like you usually have a bunch of long term high impact options in FA. Mack was only an unrestricted free agent because the Browns matched a contract offer from Jacksonville which included a player opt out.
It needs to be a combination of FA+draft. I'd like to see them sort out the OL this year. New LG, new center, new tackle to develop, backup C/G at minimum.
I would address OL by looking to trade down a bit in the 1st, take Quenton Nelson who is the best overall OL in the upcoming draft and the best guard prospect in a long time. Plug him in at LG from Day 1. Outstanding scheme fit for what Kyle likes to do and a dominant run blocker/high quality pass blocker.
Sign someone like Ryan Jensen of Baltimore in FA to play C. Sign a reserve G/C and use a later draft pick on a swing tackle that could potentially develop into a starter. Hope that Garnett can become something worthwhile.
Use the remaining picks on edge rusher, WR, RB and LB.

Shanny's zone read allows for lighter, faster guards. See Atlanta's interior of Levitre 6'2 303, Mack 6'4 311, Sweitzer 6'4 314. I don't think the mauling run guards of Garnett then add Nelson in as well is what we need. Nelson, McGlinchey have a nice little thing going on in ND but they're very run heavy. On pass protection Nelson is solid but he does have some holes it just can't be exploited right now with how much they're dominating on the ground.

Nelson was pretty good as a pass blocker last year as well. His athleticism is more than sufficient for Shanahan's scheme. He is pretty much scheme-neutral which is another reason why he is such an outstanding prospect.
